She just came out of a split heat. We kept her inside for the duration, but two of her mammary glands are becoming full and kind of swollen. The rest of the glands have remained the same size. Is she pregnant or is something else going on?

If she was kept away from male dogs, she is having a false pregnanct. Many, perhaps a third of all females have these false pregnancies..Nothing to do for it, but once she has had one, she will likely have them in the future until she is spayed.

What do you mean by a split heat? There is no such thing. Gestation period for dogs is 59 to 64 days. If she is swelling prior to 36 days then she could have other problems. Mastitis, false pregnancy, mammary cancer, etc.. Have her examined by your vet. Especially if the swelling is hard to the touch.

It doesn't sound like she is pregnant. It's probably just that her hormones are all over the place and this is her body's way of coping with the extra nutrients that she stores when she comes into heat. Now that her body knows that they aren't needed it is trying to get rid of them as best it can. It can take several weeks for her hormone levels to return to normal, especially if she has had a split heat.

The vet tech is the expert.........but in my experience, if her glands are swollen shes pregnant........always amazes me though how long it really takes for them to SHOW.....congratulations dear!
