I did my hair at home and had the same problem. I waited a week and it lighted up alot, after several shampoos. I rinsed brown suds out my hair for a few days. You shouldn't dye your hair again for a couple of weeks anyway, it is a great way to fry your hair. Been there, done that.

When you wash your hair, use the hottest water that you can stand. Also, mix in some baking soda with your shampoo. Both of these things will help your color to fade out alot faster.
I recently dyed my hair red...but it came out darker than I wanted. I did this and it helped after about 2 weeks.
You may also be able to get a product from Sally's Beauty supply that will help to lighten it a shade or two. Give your local Sally's a call and ask them. Their staff will know if they have something that will help do the job for you. They are the ones that told me about the baking soda.

You could use a “peroxide cap” where you combine 40-volume hydrogen peroxide in equal parts with your favorite hair conditioner and apply the mixture to your hair and leave it in place under a plastic cap for 20 minutes. This will be a gentler means of lightening the hair than bleaching the hair outright. If you have access to a bonnet hair-dryer you should sit under the hair dryer on low heat setting while the conditioner-peroxide mix is on the hair. If you have no bonnet dryer, you can use a hand-held dryer with a diffuser, or towels warmed in the clothes dryer to keep the hair warm while processing. Simple wrap the heated towels around the plastic cap in turban fashion.

Go back to your stylist, she or someone in her salon should fix this problem. Especially if you commented on it. But you should have never left if you were not satisfied and you should have made that clear before you left. We sometimes feel that the client is satisfied if they don't say a word. A closed mouth doesn't get fed, is the saying my grandmother used to use......... The sooner you contact the salon the better. Because you want the same products used on your hair not something different, it may cause a reaction you don't want and then you might damage your hair................. In the future don't leave until you are satisfied. And if she really didn't know what she was doing she should have said so, and referred you to someone who did.........

You can use a shampoo that will strip the color out faster. I don't know if it's still around but there was a shampoo called Prell that had a lot of detergent in it and it really stripped hair color out.
Only problem with it is that it really dries out your hair.
If you're really unhappy, you may want to call this hairdresser and have her do a corrective color on it, or add more highlights. If it's a good hairdresser, she should not charge you if you are really unhappy with the color.

This happened to me once, and this works amazingly.... alrighty- get a bottle of lemon juice and poursome on a brush that you wouldn't mind getting lemon juice on.
Brush your hair where you want it to be lighter, and highlighted. Then, go out into the sun and be in the sun for about 2 hours.
Do this as much as you want until your hair is the color that you want it to be. I hope this helps!
P.S It makes your hair a lot shinier too.

Instead of using a shampoo for color-treated hair, use a regular shampoo until the dye lightens to the color you want it.
If that doesn't work, go back to your sylist and ask her to fix it. It's your hair, so you should like the way it looks.

Some people do have naturally black hair that aren't goths :/
Anyways. Maybe your stylist knows what she's talking about. From my experience (well, technically not mine) but there was this kid in our class that dyed his hair this really bright purpley magenta color and a weeks or so later it totally faded. Almost pink like. So, maybe if you just shampoo your hair regulalry your color will fade.
