Dear Curious,
Have a long serious chat with your doctor! Listen to his/her advice. I weighed 320 at 5'5". I have lost almost 100 pounds and am proud of that. I DO NOT have health issues. This casts this whole problem in a new light. No, this is not horrible, it is what it is, a healt issue that you are addressing. You took the first step and are asking for help. Also, beauty is about what is inside you, not what size pants you put on. Pick your head up, fix the problem and work throught it one day at a time. It took you four years to get here and it is going to TIME to fix it!

If you haven't been very active for awhile, walking is an excellent way to ease into exercise and get moving again. Swimming is another. I would do some stretches before you start to warm your muscles up and get your body ready for the movement. You could also get a dvd of aerobic exercise to do at home. There are several available for all levels of exercise, and again, if you haven't been getting a lot of exercise, start light and work your way to the more strenuous workouts. As for eating, you could use several methods or diets that are out there, but a key is in paying attention to what you eat. watch the calories you take in as well as what kind of carbs. Start trying to work in more fresh vegetables into your daily eating routine. The more processed a food is, the more nutrients it has lost. Joining a gym or even a weight loss group might be helpful. You could meet a buddy that can help motivate and inspire you. And lastly, before you do anything drastic, you should speak to your doctor and get some tips and advice from him. Let him know what you are intending to do so he can help monitor your health.

you're doctor needs to get you some med's. you aren't taking anything for it??? once the med's balance out you should start to see the weight literally melting off. the thing is no matter what you eat it's going to stick to you. you will have to stay away from sugary foods and foods with high fat content. also make sure you pick up a hobby you like so you won't get depressed and fall back into comfort eating. (make some i.m. friends on answers too!! i've met some cool people here i chat with all the time). but if you end up running into an asshole which i'm sure you will now and again, (i do, the ones who like to make swipes at you here in cyberspace but have no way of contacting them, cowards) remember don't let that send you back to the comfort eating either. you'll be fine. give it a year. the weight will be gone and you'll be in a beauty pageant before you know it.

Maybe take up a sport that involves a lot of physical activity and running around (soccer, baseball). Swimming is always great for the body because it works out all parts of your body, although I'm not sure if you are comfortable with that unless you have a pool in your backyard. Walking does great wonders so give that a shot. Just make sure to stay constant at it and try not to overdo it or skip days. The hardest part of getting into shape is starting out. Good luck!

If 2 people overeat bad foods, the one with the thyroid problem will be fatter. If 2 people do not over eat the wrong foods, then neither will be fat even if somone has a slow thyroid.
Diets do not work. 99% of people gain the weight back. Here is how it works. No one teaches the animal what to eat and what not to eat. He knows instinctively what to eat. Humans also have the same instinct. The way it works is just eat whatever tastes good and that will be healthy for you and non-fattening. That is why a baby tastes everything. So again whatever tastes good, is good for you. This is why you will spit out spoiled milk.
But wait!!! Man has the technology to create rat poison. It tastes like healthy food (good taste) but kills the rat. So man has done that to you. Note- any food unaltered by man (uncooked) that tastes good, is good for you. So if you are stranded in the woods, that is how you know what to eat (cooking changes that). So man has created fake fruit. It tastes like fruit that exists in nature but it is terrrible for health, addictive and fattening called sweets.
So it is natural to like real sweets called fruit, like a baby does, but they have fooled you just like the rat. But they do not want to kill you. They want you to become obese so you will buy lots of their foods. This is called GOOD BUSINESS. Remember the above (not on site) and see site below to re-learn how to eat so you can be thin and fit for life.

Try knockin' out the carbs and go on a all protein diet for a few weeks! Take fiber pills though! Or you will have health problems in the future. Trust me, it works if you stick to it! I lost 10 pounds in about 2 1/2 weeks! Without exercizing!!

You should really check out weight watchers or sparkpeople.com. I lost 60lbs in 6 months on weight watchers... Both of these programs teach you how to eat healthy and become active and unlike alot of other "diets", these have a maintanence program, so you don't gain everything back.

I weighed 300, now i weigh 180.
