Both are good. I think Advantage kills fleas faster. Frontline is more water resistant if you bathe your pet a lot. Neither causes seizures as they do not get absorbed into the bloodstream. Biospot or Hartz products, when used on sensitive dogs and especially cats, can cause seizures. This is because the pyrethrins/permethrins in them are absorbed into the blood and affect the nervous system. Pet stores usually carry both Advantage and Frontline. AdvanTIX must never be used on cats...only on dogs!

Frontline and Advantage are both good products, and very safe I might add. I've never heard of Advantage causing seizures. Hartz, however, is suspected to. You can buy both at some pet stores, although it is recommended that you get them from your vet. Vendors only sell to vets, and sometimes the products at pet stores are knock offs. As for deciding which to use for your dog, there are a couple of things to think about.
1) Are you treating fleas and ticks, or just fleas?
*Advantage only treats fleas, Frontline treats both. The company that makes Advantage also makes a product that treats fleas and ticks called Advantix. This product is not safe to use if there are cats in the house though.
2) Do you bathe your dog a lot, or does it go swimming?
*Frontline is condisder water proof, so it doesn't dilute in water as easily. If you bathe a lot, then try using a soap free shampoo, it won't strip the product off, no matter which you use (the water may dilute though).
Also remember, summer time is when the flea problems seem to be out of hand. If you are treating once monthly (Advantage can be applied more often if needed. Once daily will not hurt you animal, and if ingested, no harm either, just a lot of salivating because of the bitter taste), and still seeing fleas, you may need to treat your house and/or yard.

I use advantage all the time with no problems at all. Also have heard frontline is pretty good also. Both you can get at the vet or pet supply store.

I have used Frontline and found that it doesn't work all that well. I now use K9 Advantix http://www.k9advantix.com/ - it is great and it kills the fleas in about 24 hours. You do have to get it from the vet, pet supply store (some of them) or online. I order mine from either http://www.drsfostersmith.com or http://www.dog.com - it is about the same price from either place. For bedding treatment I use Adams flea spray. You can get this at most petstores.

Its not really up to me, my dogs tell me that they prefer me to use Advantage, as the chemical smell is not as overpowering as the Frontline. The dogs find that Advantage works better for them. I would rather (and I do) feed them garlic, however in this time of drought I don't have too much choice to use chemicals.
