i have a small female beagle who smells everything and if she sees someone she tries to run after him/her and ends up choking herself so i think the halter or harness would be a good idea.

Petsmart gives me advantage with no vet visit and it has worked fine for my dogs. You have to get it from the vet but at least at the vet in petsmart they did not require a vet visit. You can also by a harness at petsmart.

At PetSmart, you can come in and get Advantage or Frontline from our Vets over the counter without bringing your dog in. There is also usually a "pet trainer" expert on staff that can help you pick out an appropriate halter/harness for your dog, if you explain the specific problems you're having. And of course, you can bring your dog in to try the halter/harness on in the store, or, sign up for some Pet Training Behavior Classes held in-store that might fix the problem completely. Call the store beforehand to see if there's a pet trainer on staff that day and just ask a cashier when you get there if they could page the trainer to help you. Good luck!

Generally, a halter (Halti or Gentle Leader) fits around the head and muzzle and is used to help control pulling. A harness fits around the neck and chest and the dog will still be able to pull a lot, but it won't choke.
Advantage and Frontline are both good. Advantage has a bit of a quicker flea kill to it. Frontline is a little more water resistant if you do a lot of bathing. You can get both at the petstore or vets.

I don't know about the harness/halter; but, I know a bit about the other. The main difference is that Frontline gets both ticks and fleas, while Advantage gets only fleas. It depends which you need (mainly where you live). You can buy it at pet places or the vet. My vet is cheaper. I use the Frontline because I live in the country and my dog does her thing outside, not in a litter box.

I had problems controlling my dog on walks and I had a dog behavorist come to my house. He had me buy a HALTI. It work well and pulls from thier snoot so it really gets thier attention without prongs or choking. It works great. I have used Advantage in the past and it has worked really well, but I have also heard great thing about Frontline because it is water resistant. So if he gets wet or you wash him often that might be the better choice.
I dont like the gentle leader because it would always come off the nose, the HALTI works better. Be sure to get the flea meds from a VET, the pet store kind have been linked to all kinds of health issues.

1. Go to the vet for Frontline or Advantage. I'm pretty sure that's the only place to get them. The pet store equivalents don't work.
2. First try to train your dog to walk nicely on the normal leash. Try stopping dead in your tracks everytime she pulls - then encourage her to come back to your side and reward her for doing so. An obedience class would help alot with this.
If that doesn't seem to work, buy a gentle leader - it's a harness that goes over the nose and works wonders for stopping pulling. Take yoru dog to the petstore to buy it, so they can size it properly for you and show you how to use it.

With Frontline, you are not supposed to get the dog wet 48 hours before or 48 hours after you put it on. Advantage also repels and kills mosquitoes, which Frontline does not do.

I used to order Advantage online from Australia or New Zealand. It's much cheaper (I think about $3 per dose for cats, including postage, vs. $9 at the vet), and you don't need a prescription. I think one site I used was Petshed.com; a google search for "advantage" and "australia" will bring up sites that sell it.

go to www.1800petmeds.com for cheaper prices. If looking for a harness the Holti harness is the best as it controls pulling/tugging on the leash.Take your beagle to Petsmart, they will even let you try the harnesses on her for the perfect fit.
