I am late filing mine and I just found out classes start next week. I did mine last week and a lot of people have said 1-2 wks to process. My school said they "dl fafsa info from the database" every thursday. So this thursday it probably won't be processed right? Next week maybe?

*I figure school starts on monday and tuition is due by that friday. If it isn't processed by then I will have my prof's write an overload add/drop slip. Will it work?

If you've already entered the info online, then it's been "processed" on the government's end. That part is almost instantaneous. If your school downloads every Thursday (I'm guessing it's not a large school because larger schools download daily or even 2x/day this time of year) then your info will be in their download this Thursday if you properly identified them in the declaration when you entered the info.

The school can process your financial aid right then and there, or they may have a backlog. I can't imagine them not having it processed and a report to the Bursar's office by the middle of next week. I also can't imagine them holding up your registration if the info is there for them. They're in the business of educating students and there is SO much competition for students in this day and age that they're not going to let the F/A process risk you going to another school. Then they get NO tuition and can lose you as a student permanently.

This one falls under "don't sweat the small stuff".

It depends on whether you mailed in your application or filed it online. I recommend filing online as it takes 2-3 days for it to be processed. Then, depending on your university, up to 2 weeks from there. You have to be approved for "X" amount in loans, grants, etc. then your university will tell you what you've been approved for.

At my college, I had to fill out a "Certificate of Authorization" giving them my permission to pay out from my financial aid and cut me a check for the remainder.

I wouldn't stress out about it too much. Just keep checking in with your financial aid office to update your status. I've filed late before and still gotten my aid within a month.

Good luck!!
