Interesting answers so far but wrong.
You question asks what do Rangers train on...which has nothing to do with the school itself. Ranger battalions train daily on their METL tasks which are their mission essential task list. What makes these units able to do this is the bases they are at are no allowed to task them for and type of post details which allows them to be training all of the time aith virtually unlimited resources. Regular units go through cycles where they have blocks for post gurard and details etc which means during this time they cannot train.

they go through Airborne school after their basic and MOS training. If you are thinking about combat, most are infantry. After Airborne school you have to make it through Ranger Indoctrination Program and be selected. Then you are a Ranger. At some point, if you stay in Ranger Regiment you'll be sent to Ranger School. However, Ranger School is open to several military occupations and you can be sent by you unit even if it isn't part of Ranger Regiment. If you make it through then you get the Ranger tab and become Ranger qualified.
Regardless if you are a Ranger or not, when conducting combat operations you will suffer lack of food and sleep, the heat and cold, the rain and snow, carrying all your gear on your back for however long it takes you to get to where you are going, and combat itself - from bombs and rockets to gunshots.
Units that are tough achieve that through hard training day in and day out, there is no other way. Most of the time the right people volunteer for the job, people that are mentally tough and strong willed to begin with. The ones that aren't quit, it's that simple.

My son graduated on May 2006 from Ranger School. I am pretty sure since he survived Ranger School deploying with his unit will be a breeze. As a LT, he had to remove all rank from his uniforms - no rank in Ranger School. In the crawl stage - they run 8 miles with 40lb pack, they must swim in pool with pack on & full gear including boots (my son says wet they weigh 30 lbs),
they must dive in & remove pack without resurfacing, & they are blindfolded & pushed off diving board with gear & gun & must swim to edge without panicking. They dig holes & them run from hole to hole while people shoot at them. They fight with the q-tip things & wrestle (take someone down or out of circle) with what he swore were professionals - college & high school wrestlers. My least favorite was punch day - the Sgts punch the cadets - cadets may not hit back or take their feet out - if you staggered back they go for kill. the lesson is to move in & pin their arms so they can not hit you. In my son's class, 2 got knocked out, 5 got balck eyes & one got sent to medic & back to Infantry. My son took 1 punch to jaw before pinning the Sgt.
Phase 2 is Mountains - my son graduated from university in mountains so he loved this section. Repeling, mountain climbing,
carrying a comrade down mountain by ropes.
Phase 3 is toughest in Florida swamps - By now the 2-3 hours of sleep a night is in week 6. They are feed 1500 calories of yucky food & happy to eat any of it. The average cadet loses around 30 lbs. When left standing in swamp for 45 mins while leaders "scouted", my son started hearing splashes (after the alligator talk) & he realized that the others his unit were falling asleep & falling over into water. He grabbed a small tree stump & held on & slept - one of his friends grabbed his pack & slept - there were 4 of them. The others behind them woke them up when time to go. That is tired.
Only 50% graduated & only 20% make it thru the 1st time. My son was in that 20%
