Kittens and cats all have their own distinct personalities -- and at 10 weeks old she's still forming hers. For one thing, kittens are full of boundless energy, so she's probably going full tilt and doesn't want to be held in case she misses something fun going on. If she doesn't even like to cuddle and be held when she's sleepy -- she's just not a lap cat! However, they do shift their personalities a little big depending on how you work with them. The key thing is never to FORCE them. If you restrain them when they don't want to be restrained (needlessly -- obviously there are times when it's necessary) they will come to never like being held. If you ARE holding the kitty, let her down when she says she wants down.
Like anything else, it takes time and patience. She's VERY young right now, so don't give up hope. When she's snoozy, try walking up to her, giving her a couple of pets and then go on about your business, and sit down somewhere. She might just surprise you and come climb in your lap for some more!
I have an 11-month old boy, who out of the litter was the ONE who doesn't like being held. He's the only boy, and by picking him up and petting him at every opportunity, but letting him go as soon as he wants loose, he's warming up to the petting and holding. (He's a bit weird because his offense at being petted seems to take hold in the living room, whereas he's much more cuddly in other rooms of the house! [???]
Give her treats and pets and catnip, and try to snuggle with her a bit when she's sleeping. If you're not letting her sleep with you, which is a bonding experience btw, you might want to try that, as well.
You have a magical time going on right now. Don't worry about it so much -- just let it be what it is, and enjoy it to the fullest!!!

Some cats are very aloof, very independent! :) She may change as she get older. Just keep trying, and make holding her a very pleasant experience. Give her some treats (my cats love pounce brand) while you hold her, "baby talk" her, pets her... It may take awhile, but after awhile she will likely enjoy being held. Maybe. It depends on her personality. Years ago I took in a friends little of kittens (to avoid the shelter) and found homes for most, except one. She was VERY shy and offish, which is why noone wanted her. She grew up and became one of the loviest cat I have EVER known!
Anyway, give her lots of love. She will love ya back. Even if she does show it in a more "independent" way. :)

Kittens are to busy playing to want to be held. It's like trying to force a busy 2 yr old child to sit still for a while. It doesn't work. Play with her a lot and eventually she will allow you to hold her for short periods.

most cats are just like that. I have a 5 month old (neutered) male kitten who loves to be held. but, I also I have a 2 year old (spayed) female cat who absolutly hates to be held. she goes crazy if you pick her up. I guess it's just their personality and difference in what they like.

I had one like that once. She liked to play so much that she didn't want to be held because it interrupted her playing. When she got a little older and settled down some she began to like being in my lap more.

Some cats are just like that. I have male cat who only wants to be petted on his turms, and I had a female cat that would start to purr the second you walked into the room or just looked over at her. Every cat is different.

It's not a trust issue my cats completely trust me. One likes to be held and the other doesn't. It's just their personality. Just like some cats like milk and some don't.

don't force her to be held. she probably doesn't completely trust you yet. Take it slow, pet her a lot, pick her up for short amounts of time, and slowly increase the amount of time once she is comfortable.
Good Luck
