Demon possession?

Do you think we can be possessed by demons today, as they were in the New Testament? Are we under estimating Satan if we don't think so?

I sure do because I have someone very close to me who was possesed and guess what,she used to be a atheist.That person was my wife and it took a very long time for her to get where she's at today free of demons and spirit filled.In the beginning it was a very rough ride I was on,alot of hurt and alot of pain,but I knew it wasn't her and I didn't give up.So that's why I know without a doubt there is a God and there is a devil.I saw it first hand,I saw her being delivered and what a rush it was,and no her eyes did not roll back in her head and she didn't puke pea soup,but her voice did change and she became stronger than three grown men.This was a VERY VERY REAL SITUATION SO THE ATHEIST OUT THERE THEY CAN STILL SAY THERE IS NO GOD,BUT I BELIEVE!!!!!!

I believe demon possession is a cool concept to write fiction about. I don't think it is actually real or that it ever was at any time in history. I think the best explanation for the belief in ancient times that people were possessed by demons is that they were just ignorant and had no scientific knowledge about certains diseases and their symptoms, and therefore couldn't see them for what they were. They took the easy way and came up with bogus justifications for people behaving in strange ways and doing strange things. Epilepsy, for example, was a reality they did not recognize as such and so they labeled it as something it was not. I do not refuse the possibility that demon possession truly happens and that demons really exist, but I do find it highly unlikely and comparable to whatever fictional concept. Same goes for Satan, which in my opinion is a stupid concept that probably began as a metaphor and people developed into a character out of ignorance and lack of interpretative skills.

Demonic possession still happens today, however I think in some churches they put on shows to draw crowds. It needs to be clarified that Christians cannot be possessed by Satan or demons, because they have the Holy Spirit inside them.

We ARE possessed by demons to day, just like in the New Testament. It's just that in modern times people believe that it is "stylish" to posses them.

Yes, I think that Satan's angels can still possess people. It can be either physically or spiritually. I know that Satan's main purpose is to make us as unhappy as he is and to make us believe that he doesn't exist. Once we think that he doesn't exist we would do lots of bad things and we will stop thinking that God exists too because we wouldn't need to be redeemed anymore. No Satan=no sin=no need for a Savior

So, Satan exists and can influence our lives but we should never forget thet we are sons and daughters of God and He loves us and wants us to be happy.

Yes, it is very possible to be possessed by a demon and there are such things as evil spirits. And yes, we do underestimate Satan when we do not believe in it.

Yes, I believe it is still possible. The new covenant did not put our enemies to sleep or anything; we still have to be vigilant.

I think of possession as a "date rape" type scenario, in a spiritual sense. You know, somebody gets involved with a nice-seeming guy, who builds up her trust to the point, she doesn't question what sort of drink he has given her, until it's too late, and the monster is at work! Possession is a spiritual rape.

the Devil is continuously gatherin more people for hell by many ways including demon possession. 2 say it is an old-time thing and doesnt happen anymore is to be decievd by the devil himself, and not shielded agaisnt it. recently i was at a camp, and witnessd many teenagers hu had demons manifestin in them. it was scary, but it made me realize that the Bible verse is tru which says 'there is nothin new under the sun'

Yes it still happens today. However in America, we often medicate those who have those kinds of problems. I have personally been involed in praying for demon posessed people. It is not fun. It is hard work. God can set them free if they want to be free. Satan is powerful, but not as powerful as God, since he is just a created angel, though fallen.
Don't mess with the devil unless you want problems...

I think a lot of those demon possessions written about in the Bible were actually schizophrenics. Demons can't possess people...no noncorporeal entity can. They don't have that kind of power. People who claim to be possess are actually either suffering from a mental illness or have been convinced in some other way that they are possessed and are manifesting it themselves. Nonphysical entities can make people THINK that they can hurt us or possess us, if we let them. But they can't actually do it.
