If you saw a weak child or person who walked with a walker or crutches would you take it away?Would you be so cruel? How does it concern you? How does it harm you? And for those who do not know this is purely rhetorical. I have faith and I believe in God:Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I do NOT believe faith is a crutch for the weak I am only asking this based on somes assertations.
Peace Be With You,

As I have said I need and follow God. I can accept my human weakness. God makes me strong.

This is directed at those who feel it is their DUTY to rid people of their faith.

I believe that ALL humans are weak. Look at the world today and what a mess we make of it.

Do you feel that it is our duty to lead all people to the truth? If yes, you are doing exactly what atheists are attempting to do when challenging religious beliefs. I am not so cruel to take away some child's walker, and that example has little to do with the actual question.

I believe that it is a sad thing for someone to spend their lives in devotion to something that doesn't exist. It makes their entire lives practically meaningless, especially those who alienate others in favor of their faith.

It doesn't concern me, however, just as I would help an injured person I didn't know, I am kind enough to attempt to keep you from wasting your life.

I don't believe that faith is a crutch for the weak, but I do believe that faith is no path to truth, and nothing will come of it. I only want to help, why turn me away?

Many people do not realize how much of their life is based on faith. Things they have faith in they take for granted. For example, those that drive cars have faith that they will not be in an accident every time they drive or they have faith that the sun will rise (a bit extreme but it makes my point). Neither having an accident or the sun rising can be proven as a fact before it happens. Chances are good you will not crash and the sun will rise, but it is not a certainty. Having said that, some of these people refuse to have faith in things that are not a regular occurrence, like events in the Bible. The fact that some people, for whatever reason, use their faith as a "crutch" just encourages doubters to ridicule them even more, when the doubters can only have faith in something when the odds are in their favor. The inability to have actual faith in something that the odds are against, is true weakness.

If the child/person in question doesn't actually need the crutches for walking? You bet i would take them away! Walking with crutches, or with a walker, when your legs actually work leads to atrophy and weakness of the legs.

Same idea with the mind; most people are perfectly capable of functioning without superstitious beliefs. Using them as a crutch only leads to atrophy of the intellect.

And no, i don't believe that all faith is a crutch for the weak. I think of it more as a failure of intellect; it just happens to turn into a dependence after a period of time. Just as a person who's never walked on their own won't be able to do it very well, someone who's always had superstitious beliefs can find it very difficult to function without them.

Yes, I'm bothered by people who criticize others for using anything as a crutch, but especially God and Faith. A crutch is not a bad thing. If you break your leg and don't use crutches while it heals, you do it more damage. crutches help to make it stronger as it heals. The only difference is with God you never lose the need to rely on Him. You only keep getting stronger and stronger.

Correct you are Debra, as Josh McDowell once said, " the crutch implys a sickness to begin with" its something you admit you cannot do on your own. Contrary to what Ms. Lois Lane says in Superman, the world Needs a savior.

Peace Be with You as well pretty lady,

Your question implies that the person who is using the walker or crutches actually NEEDS them. And that's perfectly fine if it helps that person cope and make it through life. Because obviously, without those devices, the person is weak and unable to move on his own.

So using your analogy, are you saying people who turn to religion are weak and can't make it on their own? Just curious.

I have a duty to protect the truth. And if I knew for a fact that there was nothing wrong with that person's legs, I would indeed take the crutch away. Why? -- because they don't need it, and it's slowing them down. It's holding them back.

When your toddler insists on holding onto his baby bottle, you know that you have to take it away from him -- because it's no longer good for him.

Ok, personally I believe religion to be a sociological construct that was created to keep societies cohesive when it was needed. Just because I believe that and don't believe I need a religion doesn't mean I'm against all religion. If someone finds it helpful, or wants it who am I to say that is bad for them? We are all individuals with different needs and there is nothing wrong with that.

some people turn to drugs and alcohol or other things which is a Bad comfort in hard times. people that believe in God have a positive 'crutch' and i will say that i don't think its a bad thing. its better than being an alcoholic or being a glutton or turning to drugs to find comfort. so oh well, to people who just don't like it

your response does not back up your point (the whole crutch thing...)...unless you are trying to say that faith is in fact a crutch for the weak.
