I just cut an onion, and what is this?

It's like, a white, milk-like liquid running from the onion...I have never seen this before, is the onion bad?

Sorry, I don't think I was clear enough...
I cut onions pretty often, but I have never seen "onion juice" like this. It is white and looks like milk...so, this is normal? I always thought onion juice to be clear...could be wrong, I guess.

P.S. - It doesn't make me cry :-P

I'm an asst. produce manager and the onion is fine as long as the the onion is firm and shows no signs of rot.

The milky white substance is just the juice of the onion it's perfectly okay. So relax and enjoy your onion.

I have never heard of a juicy onion being a bad onion. If the onion isn't bruised or rotten,my guess is that it is fine.

i have noticed that the darker the juice the sweeter the onion, i could be wrong, but it seems that way to me , i love onion, use it in everything i can , unfortunatly my husband doens share the same love, have to cook sometimes 2 of the same thing, because he doesnt like them

no its not bad, thats the juice of the onion. to counter affect the juice causing tears in your eyes, rub your hands with cooking vanilla

i dont thing an onion can ever go bad...i mean if you leave it out for a few days, they sprout...so maybe its just juice

no its not bad, my dad eats about 4 onions a day (odd i know) and lucky me, i get to cut them. its actually normal. no need to fear.
