the front car that just stopped in time gets his rear bumper paid by the second car the second car was traveling to fast and gets a ticket for that, could not stop has to fix the front of the #2 car too! The third car pays to fix the back bumper of the second car and because they were talking on there cell phone gets a ticket for distracted driving/following to close, pays to fix the front bumper. And how about this car #4 smashed into the cars stacked up but! they were here illegally had no drivers licenses or insurance did not know where they lived and ran away, leaving the car behind. Got uninsured motorist coverage?

A rule of thumb with accidents is that your responsible for your own front end. If there was a question about whether or not your at fault your insurance co would have to sue the other drivers insurance (ie: someone dropped a load of something on the road and caused a chain accident). If the first car slammed on the brakes and you hit the car behind them then it would be said that you were following to close or at too high of a speed.

If a driver in front stops abruptly, it is never his fault if he is rear-ended. The second guy is responsible for hitting the first one, and the third guy is responsible for hitting the second guy. This is because you are supposed to be following a safe distance away, giving you time to react if someone in front of you stops suddenly.

The middle car is at fault too for following too closely.

Unless, the middle car completely stopped in time, then was hit from behind and pushed into the car in front. In taht case the first and the third cars are at fault and the middle one is not.

In you version, each of the cars can be partially respponsible. Its called comparative negligence. It's a question for the jury or tryer of facts to decide. Generally. absent some unusual situation, you are responsible for hitting a car in the rear.

once you get right into a motor vehicle twist of destiny, it is many times the final motor vehicle it is at fault. yet based on the counsel you provided, you will nevertheless be fairly at fault b/c on the police checklist it indicated which you have been following too close. the 1st autos injuries are the proximate reason of the 2nd autos fault. You hit them after the twist of destiny happened. in case you have been in a motor vehicle twist of destiny, you will would desire to attend to with medical doctors to be sure while you're injured, your no longer purely going to record a lawsuit. when you consider which you had no awareness which you have been being sued before, then i will would desire to assume that motor vehicle a million tried to settle their declare with motor vehicle 2 and motor vehicle 2 in all probability did no longer come extreme adequate or they denied the declare. in case you had coverage on the time of the twist of destiny, then i does not be too disturbing approximately it. you at the instant are not in my view being sued. And now in days, whilst motor vehicle injuries bypass to trial, you will desire to teach countless components to get compensated. And these days, noone has been getting compensated like that. So do no longer worry. forward the summons over to the coverage business company so as that they might record an answer on your behalf. in the event that they do no longer record an answer interior of 35 days from once you have been served, then they might get a default judgment against you for notwithstanding volume they desire. So touch them asap. FYI, police do no longer be sure whose at fault, yet they do positioned on the police checklist who would desire to be at fault, and the reason. they are in codes.

Generally if you hit someone else from behind even if they stopped quickly, it is your fault. You were not keeping a safe distance. In many states though, who's at fault doesn't matter.

if he crashes, then it's his fault,

if he stops, then even though it's his fault, it now becomes your fault, since you were following too close.
