It's like drawing three circles. A big circle of Christianity, a circle inside of it called Mormonism, and a circle inside of that called LDS. LDS stands for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Mormon is a term that refers to anyone that believes in the Book of Mormon. Christianity refers to anyone that looks to Jesus Christ for salvation. There are Mormons that aren't LDS (like the former RLDS, the Temple Lot, and other groups.)

Mormons differ from Christians because they believe a person named Joseph Smith saw golden tablets from Heaven that were more instruction from God, and that he made the Book of Mormon from them. They study this almost or more than the bible.
They also believe that we become a kind of God when we get to Heaven, and that you should not be friends with or marry non-Mormons. If you are not a Mormon, you can not enter their temples-even to go to a friend's wedding. It sounds bad, but they just want to protect themselves.
Also, some Mormons are more strict...they can't have caffeine, hot beverages, alcohol, can't watch R rated movies...a lot of Amish people are Mormons. They are not the same thing, but their views are similar. Of course, not all Mormons are like this, all religions have different degrees of followers.
I don't think there is anything wrong with the Mormon religion other than the fact that I don't believe that God wrote their Book of Mormon, and that Jesus was accepting of sinners and people of other faiths, so Mormons could be a little more open too.

Mormon and LDS, are the same. Christianity as in Catholic,Protestant, or Baptist would differ from LDS in that:
-LDS believes Jesus was a teacher and nothing more. Christianity believes he is God.
-LDS believes after you die you can become a God yourself. Christianity believes there is and always will be only 1 God.
-LDS believes God had a child through natural means
-LDS believes there is always a prophet alive. Christianity doesnt
Those are only a few differances.

Your first two words "mormon" and "LDS" are synonymous in many people's eyes. LDS is short for "Latter Day Saint" which is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Mormon is what everyone calls member of the church because we have a second book of scripture named "The Book of Mormon" and so they call us Mormons for short. Your last word, "Christianity" is hard because it is based upon ones definition. My definition is anyone who believes Christ lived and through his grace we are saved. Mormons definitely believe is Christ since our Book of Mormon has written with it "Another Testament of Jesus Christ" and we too believe that through him and the fruits of our labor we are saved. If you believe another definition I cannot answer your last question. If you have any other questions ask a member of the church in your area or go to mormon.org for basic information about the church.

Joseph Smith was a false prophet. He has led many wonderful people astray. He claimed that he received a divine revelation. He tried to use the old English(thee, thou, thy, etc) but he was not familiar with it so he used the words in the wrong way. It should be plain to anyone that he was not a true prophet of God. As some have mentioned LDS teaching includes the idea that we become gods ourselves. I think an Ex-Mormon once mentioned that they believe that 144,000 people is all that will be saved. I questioned what the point was of trying to witness to people if they believe that. I have not confirmed this with other sources. Most Christians believe the 144,000 from revelation is a symbolic # that shows completeness.

Here we go again. the LDS Church or Mormon church is one in the same. They have a tiered religion so what they tell you when you convert is three Gods and then when you get in there and "move up" you are supposed to believe in millions of gods.
Joseph Smith was a raging polygamist like his second in command Brigham Young was a raging polygamist. "Real Mormonism" is still polygamy according to several who leave every year to be polygamists. That is enough for now. Read the ex-mormon websites.

Mormon is a nickname given to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mormon is a prophet, historian who comprised parts of what is known as the Book of Mormon. Originally out of ignorance people would say hey, there are those Mormons, as a result of them studying from the Book of Mormon.
LDS is an abbreviation for latter day saint.
I am a Christian member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All other names are nicknames.

Is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints a Christian church?
Answer:
M. Russell Ballard, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, said:
"There are many who say that Latter-day Saints believe in a 'different Jesus' than do other Christians and that we are therefore not 'Christian.' . . . We believe in the Jesus of the New Testament, and we believe what the New Testament teaches about Him. We do believe things about Jesus that other Christians do not believe, but that is because we know, through revelation, things about Jesus that others do not know. . . .
"What we want most of all is for Christian and non-Christian alike to understand that we love the Lord Jesus Christ. We revere His name. We count it a great honor and privilege to take upon ourselves the name of Christ as Christians and as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."

Mormon is a nickname for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. LDS is short for Latter Day Saints.
Members of the LDS faith believe in God, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Ghost.
Here's the 13 articles of faith of the LDS Religion.
We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.
We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
