since I don't know your age, or your finances, I am just going to tell you what this old broad did!!!
I bought a basket and some frilly shredded paper, and in the basket, i put some new brand of shampoo and conditioner, a back scrubber, some scrunchy slippers (footies...and be aware, my mom is 77), I put in a subscription that I bought online for Rachael Ray magazine ( www.rachaelraymagazine.com ), a gift certificate for Barnes and Noble, a gift card for Starbucks and a small blooming plant. She has everything she could ever want or need, I just got some things she wont necessarily buy herself. She uses non smelly old shampoo, and wears huge fuzzy slippers, that my dad hates... so i improvised and gave her a Little mom ego boost!... Oh..... and candy kisses thru the basket.

Mom I think would love a poem hand written by her daughter. A poem that thanks mom for all the wonderful things that she has taught you, and for all the valuable time she has spent with you. Keep it real and do not exagerate and mom will feel like you spent a million dollars on her. Perhaps getting it framed in a nice frame would be an added touch of class. Mom's are a special breed and need to be recognized for it more than once a year, at mothers day. Good luck on making this mom's happiest birthday ever.

get her a spa gift certificate

she can get her hair + nails done, along with an eyebrow waxing and/or a massage!

or go for the cheaper route--take her to lunch and just spend time with her!
