First of all you have to have the time to do this? you can potty train a kid in just a week as long as your persistent with it! get some pull ups or some underpants, some flushable wipes and your good to go. here are some ideas to help along:
* get a toilet Set that attaches to the big toilet,it makes them feel like a big kid.
* then get a step stool,it can also be used to wash their hands.
* if you have a boy their are things that you can put in the toilet,
like cheerios or they make things like soccer ball papers to put in
the toilet that are flushable.
* if you have a girl you can do the same thing
* try making a potty chart were you put a sticker on a paper
every time they use the potty.
* or try letting them choose what they want to do or get every time
they go potty.
* also when ever the kid wakes up make them go,it helps get
them use to the idea of going when they wake up.
* also make shire that you give them their privacy, when you
take them in their leave because if you dont they will be scared
to go on their own or even need to leave the door open when
they go.
* so i hope that you try these i know that they work, before you
know it they will be going potty in the potty!!

Here it is- it has worked for my 2 kids, and others after I tell them........
1. get m and m's handy
2. get a small potty chair
3. get a couple books about potty
4. you need to be home for about 4-5 days straight
5. now you can start. let them run around bare-but
6. Set the timer for 1/2 hour. Tell him/her to sit on the potty for 5 min. (read them a book in the mean time if it's to long for them.) If they go, give lots and lots of praise!!! I mean go crazy!! Give them about 3 m and m's.
7. Set the timer for 1/2 hour
8. Avoid asking the question "you got to go potty?'
9. Timer goes off- ok! What does that mean junior? Time to go potty again he or she would say, or you say it if they don't
10. repeat process all day long. If they go # 2 in the potty, reward with a handful of m and m's. They are very colorful and kids love them!!
11. Praise praise praise. I do spank my kids for behavior problems such as lying, disobedience, and bad attitudes, but never for having an accident. If there is an accident, clean it up queitly, and don't say much at all. Remind them it's ok, but try to make it in the potty next time, or in your own words.
Good luck!!! Hope this helps you. My girl was potty-trained in two days with the method. Took my 2 1/2 year old son a week. Leave pull-ups on them at night just in case.
p.s. if this doen't work at all, try again in a few months.

A toddler needs to be able to feel the wetness so they can make the connection between feeling and going to the potty. So make sure you put him/her in underwear or cloth diapers.
The average age a toddler will potty train is 2½. Toddlers will train at their own pace. Each one is different.
Signs of readiness:
Able to stay dry for an hour or two.
Awareness of bodily functions - the look, grunt, comment when they go.
Interest in being clean and dry.
Able to understand and follow simple instructions.
Interest in wearing training pants instead of diapers.
Simple self dressing.
Interest or curiosity about bathroom habits.
Be consistent. Once your toddler and you are ready for potty training go out of diapers completely. Doing away with diapers will reinforce potty training.
Have him/her watch Mommy or Daddy go potty so he/she knows what to do.
You can have an award or sticker chart for when they do go, so it will encourage them to use the potty more.

One of the high points of my day today was that the 3.5 year old boy I am a nanny for went potty all on his own this morning! Each day, I set the timer on the microwave for every half hour and that's when we hurry to the bathroom so he can have his "potty power time." I have a few toys by his potty that are *only* for playing with while sitting on the potty. (These toys are also thoroughly santizable, as potty germs tend to accumulate on them.) When teaching him how to pee standing up, I put cheerios in the toilet and tell him to sink them. It helps him learn to aim. "Pyoo! Pyoo! Pyoo! I sunk them, nanny! I sunk them!"

The most important is to make it fun, and not to get angry when they do not make it in time. Let them watch you go to the bathroom (like you ever get to go by yourself anyway, they are always there.) Because children love praise, make a big deal about it: scream YEAHHH!!! and clap your hands every time they get it right. Children have big ego's, the more you fuel it, the faster they will catch on.
Just remember that with boys, their fecal muscle do not develop fully until age three, and girls fecal muscles do not develop fully until two and half.
Show patience and praise, it can take up to a year for them to grasp fully (on average), though I have two boys that got the hang of it in three months and have never had an accident.

The trick that worked for my daughter was when she was 2 I let her go to the store and pick out her favorite panties. I then told her that if she wet Dora I was going to throw them away. My mom said that the scare tactic was a bit mean...funny as crap..but mean...lol. Or you can take that same approach but instead of the threat of throwing them away, just say "It's make (fill in the character here) sad if you get them wet". Hope that helps some.

Take books to read and keep in the bathroom. My oldest son learned this way. He still reads on the toilet, he's 13!
