Sony products have a reputation for going bad right after the warranty expires. I had own a few products that when bad right after the warranty expired and i have others {new ones} that are still working.
There's a urban legend that started in Japan that claims Sony goods have a so-called "Sony Timer" a device small enough and well-concealed that no one other that Sony technicians can see it.
According to the legend, the Sony timer starts when you turn the device for the first time and will tick tock away from 367-to-375-days and will stop right after the 1-year warranty has expired making the product ineligible for free under warranty repairs.
Panasonic is a good-but-not-excellent brand, their PDP modules {plasma screens, not the entire TVs} are one of the best in the industry among NEC, Hitachi and Pioneer.
The majority of their goods are easy to use and have a few more features than the rest, Sometimes Sony is a bid better in a few categories like some Audio and Video products.
I own a few Panasonic devices and they work very well with the exception of only two things that when bad, a Facsimile machine and a cordless telephone but this was 4-and 10-years ago.
So, in conclusion, both brands are good contenders with both good and bad products, Sony as the stained record that their goods tend to go bad right after the warranty expires. Panasonic has the worst customer service call center of the two.

here in our country, sony and panasonic compete.when it comes to sony repair and parts,it's costly! thats why even sony technicians dont prefer to own a unit for them self.panasonic? parts and repair is just an average and panasonic technicians own a unit for them selves.why? the situation is vice versa...(",)
