We are moving to the boonies and we currently have cable internet and we need fast internet as we are spoiled. The cable company is not out there and dsl is very slow weve been told. We are thinking about satelite internet but we don't want to spend an arm and a leg. If you have satelite internet please tell us who the company is and how much it cost and if it is fast.? Thank you

Google "satellite internet access" and you'll turn up the vendors, including Starband. Fairly expensive. See their web pages.

Its blazingly fast once the data transfer starts, but not before.

Remember, your signal has to go out to a satellite in synchonous orbit (around 25000 miles out) then back to an earth station, then on the usual internet to wherever it is to go, then the reply goes back to the station, up to satellite and down to you. In other words, short little requests with lots of replies will take forever. But if your doing some big download, once it finally gets started, it really rips. Faster than cable.

I'd sure try the DSL first. Why reject even looking at it based on the negative review of somebody who may have his/her system lashed together with paperclips and scotch tape? There used to be more satellite vendors than there are now (Earthlink, for example) and most have dropped it because of customer complaints about the latency.
