The only judgement we are not to undertake is the state of your salvation or state of Grace. Thats between you and God. No one can say who goes to heaven or hell except God.

What I can judge is how you live your life. What I can observe. And scripture also tells us not to cast our pearls before swine or to be unequally yoked.

If you cast you pearls before swine they will only trample them into the mud. If an ox and donkey are unequally yoked together the plowed furrows will run in all directions, not in straight lines.

When I see someone I KNOW to be living in an unrepentant sinful lifestyle I as a Christian am actually instructed by St. Paul to stay away from them. I treat them civilly....polite and couteous. Witness if possible...but I don't become mixed in their lifestyle. Yes, Jesus hung out with prostitutes, theives, and so on....but I am not Jesus. I am merely human and can fall. Jesus could not fall...He could only pull these people up. So that comparison of the kind of folks Jesus was around doesn't work.

The verses that say, Judge not lest ye be judged.... also go on to say that if you do judge, you shall be judged by the same standard you have used. I can live with that.

Hi Amy,

When God says not to judge- the word for judge refers to passing final judgment on someone. No one has the right to be the final judge of someone except for God.

So for example say you've a child and he gets an F on a test, you shouldn't say and make him feel like he's always going to be "stupid". But it does not mean that you aren't concerned about the F either.

The idea is that to tell someone the truth is not judging them. How you say it is important- and it seems perhaps that you've received some unfair harsh treatment.

Hope this answer helps to clarify the meaning of that passage.

Kindly,

Nickster

Well, I haven't judged you, so I don't have any clue what you're talking about. That being said, many people misuse what Jesus was saying in that passage.

The word translated "judge" is the Greek word "krino," (pronounced kree'-no). It has the idea to distinguish, i.e. decide (mentally or judicially); by implication, to try, condemn, punish. In the KJV, it is often translated: avenge, conclude, condemn, damn, decree, determine, esteem, judge, go to (sue at the) law, ordain, call in question, sentence to, think. Therefore, the "judging" that Jesus refers to has more to do with condemning someone to hell and suffering punishment. We aren't to decide who is, or is not, destined for hell.

In other cases, for example, Paul's letter to the Corinthians, he expressly uses the word "judge" on unbelievers. In this case, the Greek word is "anakrino," (pronounced an-ak-ree'-no), which is derived from krino, but is used properly, to scrutinize, i.e. (by implication) investigate, interrogate, and determine. It is used in the KJV as: question, discern, examine, judge, search. In this case, it is more about discernment, and not punishment.

I hope that clears up the context.

Because your taking it completely out of context. That passage teaches judging people with "people's standards"(Pharisaic Oral Law). The Bible is god-breathed therefore we can use it to help each other, sometimes with tough love.

Or if you are falling back on the that to say how can you know whether or not someone is going to Heaven, I can measure your words with the Bible. The rest is God's job.

B/c you have judged.
I think that's a karmic thing. Like you judge someone else, eventually you gonna be judged so you may learn the lesson.
Problem is most of us either don't understand or just don't accept that concept.

I think it was Jesus, not God who said that.

It's good advice, but hard to stick to. I'm afraid I'm a very judgemental person, which is one of my many, many sins. I'm sure I'm going to get judged very harshly as a result.

Anyway, I looked through your profile and your questions/answers, and even mean old judgemental me can't find anything to complain about, so I can't imagine who is judging you in a negative sense.

Judging you for what? I don't even know you, and even if I did, I would have no right to judge you.

It is okay to exercise righteous judgment. This is how we make decisions on which direction our lives will take. We should always judge others as we would judge ourselves.
