AND SCROLL DOWN TO "JURY DUTY"

You have to have a great excuse. Family emergency, or a personal medical emergency. More than likely, you wouldn't be selected for the actual duty anyway. I have been summoned twice, and haven't gone past the initial interview stage either time. Don't lie or act belligerent to the court officers during interviewing. The court could hold you in contempt for doing that. Be honest, go in on your summons day, and answer everything honestly. You will usually have a good idea of what the trial is about, and you may have conflicting views on what the ideal punishment should be, or perhaps how it should be handled. It's your duty as a citizen to follow through.

It's realy not hard, just fill out the paperwork that comes with your summons. Honestly I have served on a jury, it's not that bad in fact I found it very ineresting, and made some friends as well, I run into some of my jurry mates, and we talk. Try it, you might learn something!

Without a legitimate phyiscal reason you gotta go. It's actually part of your obligation as a citizen. Look at it this way: what if this is your chance to help put a way a violent gang banger, drug dealer or dirty cop? What if this is your chance to send a child molestor or rapist to jail where they belong?? Think positive, jury duty is our chance to speak out and send a message to criminals and help right an injustice! Besides, people kill themselves trying to get here to make better lives for themselves. If we can sit through law and order rerun hell we can put up with a couple of days on a jury. Good luck and peace!

You probably should not have asked that question in a public forum. Deliberately evading jury duty is considered contempt of court, and a judge in a bad mood could, quite legitimately, throw you in jail for several days for even trying. You best hope the judge doesn't look at your Yahoo! transcripts!

If you have a job where you could prove that being gone would put other people in great distress or danger, you could get out of it. Like if you were a teacher, paramedic, ect. Otherwise, just act strangely the first day of jury selection. Talk to yourself, wear clothes that don't match, belch loudly then accuse someone else of it, they will kick you out in a second.

Doctors can be excused from Jury Duty but they still to the court house to state their reason for not attending.

Just tell the truth during voir dire -- that you know that jurors are entitled to judge the law, not just the facts, despite what the judge may (erroneously) tell you. You could never find anyone guilty of violating a law you disagree with, could you? Jury nullification really upsets judges, who expect you to do as they (wrongly) instruct.

There are instructions on the back of the notice for not serving. If you don't qualify for any of the acceptable reasons, you can at least get an extension to serve. I think the maximum extension time is 6 months.

If you have never served before I would recommend you try it. I was like you. I was a very busy professional and I got stuck on a 6 day trial. It was worth it, and the world did not fall apart because I was not in the office.
