In the old day of Taffy making, it was done at businesses at the shore for the tourists. Being so close to the shore and the process of working the taffy it was said to pick up salt from the sea air. Probably did, but not enough to amount to anything or change the taste, although the tourists said it did. That is the closest to salt water the taffy ever had in it.

No, I live down the shore. They just sell them at the shore and that's how they got their name. Seriously.
