I have worked for months with them trying to get them to play it right so that I can sing it and do my acting part without worrying that they will screw it up yet again. Now the play opens on Friday night and I am at my witts end! Help me. I can't go on and humiliate myself for 10 nights in a row like that. Arghhh.

I'm a composer, so I know that problem! If it's this very friday that the play will be on, then you'r in a mess! Try to make them have rehearsals every day (maybe even twice a day!), be with them when they rehearse, explain any tricky parts of the song. If they have rhytmical problems, COUNT OF!!! You must keep the beat (and I mean YOU) so they don't loose it. If possible, find someone to keep them straight during the play (since you won't be there to do it yourself). On the other hand, the problem could be some tehnical difficulty. In that case, you should considder re-writing the song in a tehnically lighter way. And remember - you must be in high speed - gather all your energy and take charge! All best, and good luck!
P.S. - if nothing works, don't let them play the song at all! It's better that way if you know something will go wrong!

tell them they must practice like mad or they will not be able to perform the song in the play.

You need to cover your butt, if they can't get it right, you can try to re-write it but now you are limiting your creative freedom and jeopardizing original message of your song.

if they are willing to work, give them the chance to learn it, if they still cant get it right, drop the song...
