yes, but you have to vacuum down the system very well. it is not a bad idea to also change the receiver dryer before you do. you will have to change the oil also but you can buy freon with a charge in it. you will have to change the fill points and i would recommend you use gauges when you fill it so it is not over full. the r34a is not as cold in the older systems but will blow 25-30 degrees colder than ambient air temp. if you can find it there is a product called dura cool that will go in either system and is priced around 15-18 a can. more than 34a but well under the price of 12

Yes. My 1992 Honda Accord had the R12 a/c & it became a HEADACHE to have it refilled. I borrowed the money from my grandparents & had a Honda dealership do the changeover to the R134. Total price was $692.47(I have the bill handy & checked the price). The labor cost as much as the parts did. I've since paid my grandparents back & am glad I have the a/c working again. It's best if a professional does the changeover due to the environmental issues. They can recycle the old unit for you too.

Yes, its possible, but you don't have to do like #1 answer said. Is advisable to do it. For the long run. Biggest thing is, if you still have R12 in your A/C system, it needs to be discharged by a professional, its not supposed to be allowed into the atmosphere. Hope that made sense. Good luck.
