alco-pops are kind of like fizzy drinks that have a small amount alcohol (usually vodka) in them i duno if you can get them in the US because i haven't been there. and by the way the hours of pub have been extended so they can be open until the early hours of the morning. and binge drinking is more like go out to get drunk on purpose

I read an article about that a few months ago. What is consider binge drinking has nothing to do with thing like the alco pops.

They are referring to the hours of operation of Pubs. With the Pubs closing early (compared to the U.S. and other countries) the people drink faster to get more in the shorter time. A 1/3 litre of beer or ale should take about 45 mins to 1 hrs to drink. At this rate the body can deal with it better and you won't get drunk although, you will ge a good buzz. With the shorter hours researchers noted the drinkers in pubs drank that same 1/3 litre in 20 - 25 mins. and that means a person will drink 30-50% more.

The researchers call this binge drinking. It is in no way the same as the binge drinking done by college students in the U.S..
