I'm going to guess that you are a teen. Understand that in the public school culture, the norm is to be like everybody else, or at least everybody else in your group. Anything outside of that is outside of the comfort zone. Not knowing how to deal with that, they turn to what will make them feel comfortable or root them in their comfort zone: making fun of what is different. Some may actually be doing it trying to avoid feelings of jealousy. I mean, really, how many teens, given a true choice, would choose to sit in a school for hours every day? Plus know that the worst of them will continue to make fun of you if they see they get a rise out of you.
Know that it has nothing to do with you. Be above it. Don't let their discomfort become your discomfort because then they have won. We can make a choice in how we see things--choose to see this as something that has no power over you whatsoever. When the comments come again, mentally push them aside, even imagine it in your head, and think to yourself, "You have no power to make me feel bad."
If you really feel the need for a comeback, just roll your eyes and say, "Whatever." Of course, practising the 'look' of "You're such an idiot" then turning away might not hurt either. ;)

No good comebacks, but it's ironic that the people who advocate for public schools do so b/c the students are more "tolerant" and "normal". It's no fun, but you see first hand that the public schools are a mess, because they are failures even at what they are supposed to be doing right.
See about getting involved in more homeschool co-op activities. Whether it's music, sports, service activities...you build community by doing stuff together. That's important. Then you won't be around the loser public school kids.

People make fun of me as well for being homeschooled. There really is no comeback for them making fun of you, and quite frankly there doesn't need to be. There is absouletly nothing to be ashamed of by being a homeschooler. At least you don't have to wait for the teachers to straighten out the idiots in the back of the class that in 5 years, give or take will be out on the street bumming money for drugs. Best comeback is to ignore them, when you have a better job than them it won't matter.

People that make fun of you likely are very bad in school get in trouble and ect. They should be the one made fun of when they are bums on the street begging for money. I don't think you should be made fun of because your being home schooled. I think its much better even though im not =). Just try to ignore the people that are making fun of you and talk it over with a friend or a parent. and just ignore those people that said you are a loser on here. They are just immature.

I feel sorry for you being made fun of.
I always admire home schooling students and envy they have opportunites to learn time management in the young age, which is most important factor for any one succeed in post-secondary school education.
In addition, all the home schooling students I have ever encountered have wonderful support system. You are blessed.
In your remarks, you used "normal school" and " the problem". I wish you can take my points of view and start looking at the homeschooling in a positive mentality. Your mind set will change how you feel about people's comments. It is easy for me to say so, but it really works.
Try it!

i've never met anyone who made fun of anyone for being home schooled, i'm actually kind of jealous cause you can move faster than we can. It's probably just the stupid kids who are making fun of you.
Well actually I don't know why you care, you don't go to their school so it's not like you're with them seven hours a day!!!
I think it's just that it's kind of weird for us. Like the only times we get to stay home on a school day is a snow day, so I just can't imagine what it would be like to have my mom as my teacher.
Some homeschooled kids are weird, like my friend in fourth grade can from a homeschool program and she was just weird like socially and everything. But don't worry if you're missing out on the "Omigosh you are such a dork stop talking to me" Laguna Beach-esque weirdness. Most of us hate it.

My sister-in-law home schools her 5 yr old and they have 3 more younger kids 4 ,2, 2mos. and I think it is neat but I don't think she is all that smart to teach her kids at home plus the down fall in homeschooling is they don't get to interact with other children and get a feel of the real world and when they get on their own they have no clue when it comes to certain situations but I would like to home school when my daughter gets old enough for school but the down fall is my my husbands aunts and uncles and cousins have opinions with his brother teaching their kids and my hubby has opinions too. So The only thing to do is ignore what people say and do what you think is best for your children

For several years straight, home schooled students have taken the National Geographic televised competitions and, it is a fact, that they also do much better in college and their SATs. The National Merit Scholar ranking ranks the homeschooled students the highest.

Hm...I'm not home-schooled, but I have a friend who is. I don't understand why you'd be made fun of for that. You actually learn things and at your own pace, too, instead of waiting for the idiots in the back to shut up so they can be retaught everything...

i'm afraid i have no comebacks considering i go to a public school. all i can say is just ignore them and work hard at school work and show them! write a book why don't you (paolini did it). home schooling is also good if you want more free time (i think) and you can move up and end up smarter then people your age. so more power to you! enjoy yourself!
