I started reading Sherlock Holmes when I was around 8, and at the time I was enthralled by the mysteries and adventures that Holmes and Watson became entangled in every new story.
A few years ago I went back and re-read the stories, but this time what struck me was the lucid prose of Arthur Conan Doyle. His descriptions of victorian era England from the desolate moors of the country to the foggy streets of london added to the wonderful atmosphere of the familiar stories. It was wonderful to reread the stories and find I could appreciate them on another level.

I love at Sherlock Holmes that he is NOT as perfect as the first sight shows. His drug addiction, he´s lazy, he has problems with women (or even other people) ... and so on and so on. And he has a nice view of the things. Is it really important to know, if the earth turns around the sun or the sun around the world. ;-)

I love his relationship with his brother, Mycroft. Most of the time, Sherlock is nearly perfect, almost too much so...but his rivalry with his brother brings back a human quality, and it's so much fun to imagine his face when I'm reading the books.
