I do not know what the proper amount should be. I think the question is what is the fair amount? I tip my hairdresser about 20 bucks.

It depends, I like to give the person washing my hair a tip as well, so I usually give the junior about £3 and the stylist I add on around £7 - £10 depending on how good the cut was. I have no problem not leaving any tip if the cut was rubbish.

Its based on your total bill.. Many stylist work for a Co. say Regis, well Regis gets your money for the hair that was just made to be gorgeous. The stylist is getting paid hourly, so tips greatly appreciated! If your stylist rents her/his own booth, and pays rent still then tips are highly appreciated.. They have to pay outrageous booth rent, and buy their own business equipment, credit card machine which can be $50.00 a month so you can use your credit card there. So say i just spent $160.00 on a getting a cut, thinning, wash, style, color. I would tip easily Thirty.. why? because I had fun with her/him and they did an outstaning job. I would also want them to remember me too, so they will know everything I want and like in taste for my next visit. This is a great relationship..

if it is something simple like a wash cut and blowdry, i usually tip $5.00 but if it is perming and coloring, i would say at least 15% because they are paid by the job, not the hour, unless it is a chain place, and it takes quite a while to do coloring and perming

Tip about 10% to an average haircut, 15% for a good haircut, and 20% for a great haircut.

One of the difficulties of life is finding a good tailor, a good bank, a good car repair service, a good doctor, a good friend, a good mate, and a good hair stylist!! Once you find the last, tip, tip! Trust me; it will pay for itself many times over!
