Intolerance and violence seem to be integrated into the Muslim faith in spite of protestations to the contrary.

While it's true that there are accounts of violence in the Bible, they are usually (but not always) results of disobedience and/or unbelief on the part of the nation of Israel or when a nationbecame a threat to its borders.

Most nations are not a threat to those who practice Islam. They're perfectly willing to let them worship their way as long as the attitude is reciprocated.

However, Muslims are promised great rewards in the afterlife for killing "infidels" or non-Muslims. As a Christian who is firmly grounded in her faith and a former resident in a high Muslim population, I was definitely not comfortable with that tenant of their faith.

I believe the Koran pretty clearly tells muslims to either kill or at least hate Infidels. In the past this has been enforced differently from a liberal perspective where people were allowed to worship as they pleased so long as they didn't disrespect Islam. To extremes where people could be killed for practicing a different belief. To answer the question in some manifestations Islam is intolerant especially with the "radical" Islamic movement.

Intolerance is central to MOST organized religion.
They want the sheep to stay where they are and need an enemy to keep them in the pews.

While there's lots of violence in the bible, the Jewish people do not use ancient texes in the bible in their everyday life.
The Quran can be difficult to understand...there are many loopholes and Islamic fundies have used it for their evil purposes.
