I can't recall how many pages it has, but The Time Machine by Jules Verne is super, even though it's old. It isn't too long. What about A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L'Engle? That may be too long though it's so good.

A wrinkle in time is a great book for younger children. I don't know how many pages it has but it is a great book. Also the Redwall series by Brian Jacques is a great series for young adults and there are many books to choose from. The content is clean, too, which is very important for my kids.

I don't know about the pages part, but Heinlein wrote several novels for young teens. My fave was Tunnel in the Sky. Andre Norton also wrote some fairly short novels that were aimed at teens. I teethed my sci fi teeth on Norton's books.
