No. There is no such thing as a teacup of any breed. It's a deceptive term used by irresponsible breeders out to make more money.

There is no such thing in any breed. The reason you hear it so much is because there is unethical breeders who use the term to sell the puppy to someone at a higher price. Most of the time the dog has been breed purposely to be extra small by breeding two really tiny dogs together. This is dangerous for a tiny female to be breed because most of the time they cannot deliver naturally and will need a C-section. Other times it's the runt of the litter. Beware of breeders selling what they say are teacups, there is no such thing. There are many more health related problems when you buy an extra tiny dog and most of the time their life spans are not very long. I don't know about anyone else but I want a healthy dog that's going to have the longest life possible. That far out weighs having an extra small dog to me.

Not by AKC or I'm sure the Lhasa apso club. Teacup is a thing bad breeders come up with to sell a dog for more money. But know this that is not what the breed should be it is just some greedy breeder out there.

Belive me I know. I have to put up with this in shih tzu's, cocker's and my bullies. I only breed for what AKC or the parent club calls for in that breed.

Teacup dogs are smaller than the breed standard allows (check any breed standard at www.akc.org).
Irresponsible breeders sell dogs that are too small with the cutesy prefix "teacup" because unknowing people buy them at premium prices.
The same holds true for "large boned" dogs that are bigger than the breed standard allows. A good breeder does his homework, and makes every effort to comply to the breed standard in his / her breeding program.
By the way, if you are looking for a "Teacup" Lhasa Apso, I'll bet you can find one. However, I wouldn't give the breeder of that dog any credibility what so ever.

The word "teacup" cannot be found in any
standard of any breed registered by the AKC.
It is used by uneducated and irresponsible
breeders who would like to sell you something
"special" and tiny. More often, what you get is actually very small for a reason, like heart defect or hydrocephalus.
