Does anyone know what is good for a pet dog that has seborhea. It is an itchy redness usually found on the belly. Our vet says there is no cure. However she is driven crazy by the scratching and will flare up with shampoo harshness or clipping. I am looking for something that will cause some relief to the itch.

I'm going to cut/paste an answer I wrote to someone else with a dog with dry skin. Which is pretty much what seborhea is. Hope you get something from it. There are many products out there that you add to the food. Treating dry skin needs to be done from the inside out. There are derm caps and liquid, as well as many others. You can also use vegetable oil. Start out with a tablespoon and increase as time goes by. Give what your dog can tolerate without causing loose stool. No more than 3 tablespoons. There are also some good shampoos for immediate, temporary relief. Oatmeal and aloe is a good one. Stop by your vets and see what they have then go to Wal-Mart and try to find the same ingredients in something cheaper. Have worked for a vet for over 20 years I can honestly tell you that you can find similar products that don't have a 100%+ markup.
There is also a product called relief which comes in a spray. I'd try that as well. Your vet should carry it. It comes in a shampoo as well.

Do what the vet says! Benadryl is a great start for the dog who has allergies. I just started my dog on Benedryl last Friday. If after so many weeks there isn't progress then you go back to your vet and say what next! Any shots with steroid is hard on the animal or even a person. He's starting you out from the bottom and will/should go from there with allergy medication (if you should need it) for you pup! If dogs have been itching etc for a long time even with medication(in the beginning) they will sometimes revert back to itching the spot even thou they are on meds because it became an obsessive thing with their hot spot. My dog has stop chewing about 90% of the time in just 5 days. It will get better, just stay on top of things!

I'm a fairly new dog pal, but she has dry, itchy skin and her former owner gave me a bottle of flax oil that keeps her condition under control. Just a capful a day poured on her food. Hope I've helped a little.

Benadryl can be given.
Here's a site with the dosage by weight.

Also , do not allow anymore vaccinations for this dog. See the Wisconsin University weblinks
