The angels were actually supposed to be androgynous. Meaning they had no sex organs. They just appear to be male but in actuality they are of no sex, they were supposed to be above all of those Earthly things. Not to say that they could not use there powers to become male of female, but that's only if you believe in that sort of thing. Just something I came across in my study on the subject.

Because there are no female angels. There are no male angels either. Angels have no gender. They just appear to mortals as either gender (actually in most accounts they were just a tad androgynous) because humans can only interpret things in mortal concepts, gender being a mortal concept.

There are no female angels recorded in the Bible.
Animals were created male and female. Humans were created male and female. We are created a little lower than the angels, who are male.

Angels were never assigned a sexual alignment. They're angels, and in being angels, they are asexual beings. They appear represented as males with male names because males were the ruling sex for most of history.
