With so many different religious beliefs and sects. It seems as though all you hear about is fighting and killing among each other, but however it also has brought people together. What is your view of religion as a whole, do you feel it keeps us moral as human beings, and gives us a reason to live (afterlife) or do you believe it is just a big institution that was created by the higher society to rule over the people and that we would be better off without it?

Religon provides some interesting reading, but there is not need for it. Belief in God does not require the dogma of man. I don't consider moral law based on the fear of divine retribution to be true morality, either.

My integrity and morality are not a function of some religion. They are choices I make based on what I think and feel is right or wrong. It is absurd when the religious assert that one cannot be moral without sharing their beliefs. It is not righteous - it is self-righteous!

Joshua - I wonder if all the victims of King Olaf (Norway), Vlad the Impaler, the crusades, the inquisition, the Puritans or all the Indians that were slaughtered in the name of Christ would agree.

Most religions try to promote good and have good values. Some leaders do use part of sacred text to commit religious crimes but in this case it is the people that is bad not the religion.
In every religion there are good and bad people. In order to decide for yourself you need to study for yourself with the help of an unbiased teacher who can help you understand what you are reading.
An afterlife is what we have to strive for (according to the religious texts) and only after reading the Holy books for yourself can you judge if it is man-made or it is God sent.

Religion has helped more people that it has harmed. There are millions of people who could testify that their lives have been blessed because of there faith in a Higher Power. There's plenty of evidence that gives more than enough reason to believe that the teachings and the history of the Bible are real, however there are still plenty of questions left un-answered. However if you could prove religion then faith would not be necessary, and everyone has excersised faith at one point in their lives. Faith and hope alone require you to believe in something, if your not religious, then you'ld put your faith and hope in luck under certain situations.

Christ said, "I come not to bring Peace, but the sword." It is necessary that there be a good and an evil and so as a Christian I fight for what is Good because it is of God. It can also be found in the Bible where God says, "If you are neither hot nor cold I will vomit the out of my mouth{", which means that if we sit on the fence about things we are despised by God. So, we had better be zealous and passionate about what we believe in. As a Christian, I believe that God wins in the end and one day Christ will reign as King and it is necessary for me to fight the good fight.

I think religion came about as a way for people to explain the world around them before rational thought began to develop.

One reason religion is still around is that people feel that that there has to be an ultimate reward or punishment for their actions. It also makes people feel better about death.

And, lastly religion is a great way to control weak-minded people.

There go the floodgates - flame away!

I think religion separates us, I think that was the original purpose of religion, to separate and encourage us to fight each other in the name of god. I do believe the world would be a better place without religion

Religion only causes hatred, ignorance, and intolerance and the world would be better off without it.

The idea that God is up there in the clouds looking down upon us....is quite silly....it's made up like Snow White, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy.

I don't believe that people would be better off without it, I just believe that it is sometimes EXTREMELY CORRUPT. Religion does good things for some people, and I wouldn't want to take that from them. On the other hand, people use religion to do all sorts of f*d up sht. They use it to get money, they use it to control people, they use it to brainwash people into being exactly what they want them to be.

look around, what do you see on TV, people of different religions scrapping over land, wealth, power, women ect.
I don't not like religions, I feel they are something to be avoided at all costs.
Holy war? there is NOTHING holy abt war people. We are told how to behave, (Gods 10 commandments), which are reiterated by Jesus when he came. LOVE each other, take care of each other, help each other, be good to each other. NOT kill each other! please!
which one of these things do you see RELIGIONS doing? NONE
God doesn't have a religion, and neither should you...............................
Blessings and PEACE to all
