If you shave the fur around the cut, be sure the clippers are clean. Next, you'll want a mixture of the betadine with warm water and flush it our - very gently - if there was bleeding and it has stopped, you don't want to flush the clot out. Use a non-sticking bandage with water proof tape (all of this can be found in the same aisle of the store). A dab of neosporin is NOT bad! If she is OK till morning, this will work.

If there is bleeding and it won't stop, go to an ER Vet. They will want to know how this happened, also. If it was a cat, you should go NOW (can be VERY dangerous) to the Vet. Only you can determine if this is serious enough to go tonight or wait until morning. Either way - see a vet. Keep her calm for now and keep a close eye on her behavior and vitals (breathing difficulties, vomiting, lethargy, diarrhea, seizures, etc.). Good luck!

Is the cut bleeding severely? If it is then you must get the dog to the vets now. if the bleeding has stopped. Then it can wait untill morning.Wash the cut out gently with warm water and mild soap. Antibiotic ointment is ok to use as it will help prevent infection.
I realize for many emergency vet care after hours care is double in price. So if its a money issue and the dog is not losing blood then you can wait. Also depending on your dogs weight 1 asprin for pain relief is fine.If its a small dog 1/2 asprin is ok. Asprin only not anything else. If it was me I would go tonight...

DO NOT put neosporin on it!!!!!! My dog had a puncture wound and it had to be cleaned out with an antibiotic solution and he had to have medication 2 times a day. Please take your dog to an emergency vet. Call the number for your regular vet and they should have the phone number for an emergency vet clinic on the answering machine. Don't waste any time!!

well be careful.
maybe wash it.
treat your dog like a child.
be careful about what u put in an open wound.
maybe betadine solution.(red stuff) .
ive seen nurses put it on elderly people with deep bed sore wounds.
i even give dogs anti biotics like amoxicillian.
ive cured many dogs without a vet.
keep it clean.
try to dress the wound.
may use gauze bandage then wrap duct tape around dogs whole body to hold dressing on. not real tight.
tape may hurt coming off.
um, if its not bleeding, keep clean.
i hope you can afford a vet.
take tomorrow.
best of luck. ps for gods sake ..dont use alcohol !!! such pain!!
i really think u need a vet.
but if you cant afford.get betadine (spelled wrong??)

Take her to an emergency clinic, there should be one in the phone book. If there is nothing in the phone book in your area, search the web for an emergency clinic nearby and call long distance if you have to, they can give you help over the phone.

DO NOT USE RUBBING ALCOHOL THAT WILL KILL THE TISSUE, warm water is fine for now until you find a 24hour vet. Do NOT wait until tomorrow!

If you go to the drugstore (a human one) get some saline solution. Put the dog in the tub and rinse the wound thoroughly with the saline. Wrap ithe wound loosely in clean sterile gauze bandages and get to the vet immediately!!! Don't wait for your vet to open tomorrow!!!!
and certainly DO NOT use alcohol, or vinegar or anything acidic. It will burn the poor animal terribly!!!!!
HURRY UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wash it out and look in the phone book for 24 hour vets.

Vet is the best advise. She will most likely need antibiotics and it will need to be flushed out properly and possibly need stitches.
Avoid yourself bigger costs by bringing her now because if you wait it can become seriously infected which can make your dog very ill, possibly leading to death and can cost you a lot more money.

That sounds like a good idea. Make sure everything is very clean.. especially the clippers. My city has an emergency veterinarian hosp. at the university of PA veterinary school. I hope she is not losing any blood.
