Old timer's rule was no talking about sex, politics, religion, money, or anything else that someone could take offense to, or that would cause a fight, or a heated arguement. Today, even those two things at a party are fine.
The weather, botany, shopping, the last party, and maybe, if you were sure that there was no other supporters of any other sport's team besides yours at the party," How 'bout them___ " would be fine.
Hey folks, this is from a time that the word "pregnant" was still not used in mixed polite company, your grandparents, if they are in their 50's or older, might not have said it out loud. If we were invited to a birthday party, or a bridal or baby shower, we dressed in stockings, heels, and a dress, unless told otherwise. An office party, if held after work hours. was a cocktail dress affair, at least. My friend, who is younger than me by 8 years, went to a offsite christmas office party in the 1990's in a formal long dress and a fur, the year before, I wore a cocktail dress and heels. So did all the other ladies.
So things have changed a lot.
I went to a orientation today for a new job. We were told to wear "business casual", no sandals or jeans. My goodness, had I known it was OK to wear a t-shirt, or a sleeveless, plunge neck baby doll top, with a bra strap visible,I would not have spent a fortune on clothes. A Vice president of the corporation thought she needed to take her coat off [in another day and time that itself would not have been acceptable], but she had a man's white fruit of the loom type white t-shirt under it. OK, she is a vp, she can do what she wants. Point is, 10 years ago, that might have got her written up, or at least in an office somewhere, explaining that she would not do that again.
In my senior year, at public high school [for you Brits, that means the community paid for my education, not my parents], they changed the dress code so we could wear pants, not jeans, pants.Nearly froze to death most of my education years.
Thanks for asking this question, I enjoyed answering it.

Ted Williams is the easier of the two. Keep in mind he neglected 3 years due to the warfare yet he hit extra home runs than Musial and his other stats are just as excellent as Musial's. Ramirez already has more home runs than both and can most likely conclude his profession with more rbi's however he is never received a MVP. Williams has 2 MVP's and might have won extra had he now not went away and Musial has received three MVP's. Furthermore to that, Williams has 6 batting titles and Musial has 7 batting titles to Manny's 1.

Ted Williams is the greater of the 2. Keep in brain he neglected three years because of the battle but he hit extra dwelling runs than Musial and his different stats are simply as well as Musial's. Ramirez already has extra dwelling runs than each and can customarily conclude his profession with extra rbi's however he is under no circumstances gained a MVP. Williams has two MVP's and would have gained extra had he no longer went away and Musial has gained three MVP's. In addition to that, Williams has 6 batting titles and Musial has 7 batting titles to Manny's a million.

Polite company does not discuss sex, politics and religion huh? Glad I'm not at your parties lady - I mean i understand the politics and religion thing - most people get into heated arguments over that - but sex? I've never heard any arguments come from a discussion about sex. If it is a party full of adults, of course you can talk about sex. What are we, in Jr. high? Come on.

Depends on the crowd, religion was taboo, Current events encroached on politics, but if you kept it in that scope you were fine. Sex was impolite conversation. Money was implied within the context of what you had purchased, or what you were planing on purchasing.
