You and only one other person were riding an elevator. You are standing in your spot minding your own business and then all of the sudden a horrible odor starts to fill the space. You KNOW it wasn't you that farted, but the other guy. What would you do??

I was passing an old lady at a hallmark store, and she let out a big loud one. I turned to look at her and she was pretending nothing happened. I had to stop myself from laughing in front her.

Well, you didn't say that I heard anything, just smelt it. What if the odor was from another source? I might say something like "What is that?" if the odor was offensive enough. Otherwise I would probably try to tolerate it until I could get out of the elevator (might even punch the button for the next floor).

I'd say something like "sorry about that, no more Mexican food for me on a worknight." And I would laugh. Hopefully that would keep the other person from being mortified. No harm, no foul---other than odor of course. And the other person will think you are quite a nice person. (A liar of course---but very nice.) ;-)

The deed is done, so there really is nothing you can do about it. Just hold your breath and hope for the door to open soon! No sense in embarassing yourself or the other person, when you both obviously know what happened!

Try and act like nothing happened. Maybe he is just a punk guy who did it on purpose to get a rise out of you. Or maybe he just had to fart and it came out. If that was the case he meant no disrespect. Unless you wanted to fart back.

Ignore it rather than mortify the poor guy. It's a bodily function; it's not even healthy to supress it, though we can try!
