You need a TV card with A / V in on your PC to do that. Then you can hook up the VCR to the TV card. Otherwise it's impossible.

I don't know if you have a Mac or a PC, but either way this is the basic set up that you'll need...
•A good VCR (preferably one with Stereo AV outputs, which is the yellow, red, and white)
•An analogue to DV converter, one with a fire wire or USB connection
•DVD Authorizing Software, something like Roxio, and burn the videos to DVD-R. You will need a DVD-R burner on your computer or better. I would get a double layer dvd burner. So you can keep more quality on your DVD, but it's expensive.
If you have a Mac, look at these products designed for your needs....http://www.elgato.com/

The answers with the A/V via RCA jacks are good, but it requires upgrading with a capture card and having software to capture to, not to mention enough memory, hard disk and RAM.
Try this if you have an older PC and just want to archive the tapes. VHS player to DVD recorder via RCA jacks. Most newer DVD recorders have minimal edit capabilities, but other than upgrading an older PC this is easiest.

Any electonic store sells an a A/V adaptor that you can hook up to your computer so you can capture video from your camcorder, VCR in this case or DVD player, so you can record it on your computer and make copies of it. All you need then is software to do that. Snapfiles.com has pretty good software.

The fading out and in is a consequence of the replica secure practices (Macrovision) on the DVD. there is rather no *criminal* thank you to repeat it, which appears like a shame for persons who've a valid desire such as you. Any probability of having the youngsters to co-exist? Nah, in all probability no longer, or you does not have asked the question.
