No, but it's not going to get you into heaven, and don't you agree that helping someone get to heaven would be the ultimate form of compassion?

No. A Mother's love for her child is a natural love as she conceived that child with the man she is in love with. That little baby is a gift of love. The need of that child will be served by that Mother and Father until they no longer live. When the time comes, that child will in turn love, care and serve it's parents. That is just one example of caring, loving and serving without religion or spirituality......peace and love always.......

The story of Rahab, the prostitute in Jericho indicates not.. (Joshua 2:3-4)
Several non-religious people have been known to be campassionate or lender aid to others.. even when some spiritual ones did not ... For instance The story of the good Samaritan.. (Luke 10:25-37)

I would think that all one would have to be is a decent human being, decent people come in all shapes, sizes and belief (non belief) systems. It's no secret that some of the people who profess to be the most religious have also been people who have done very evil things to others who looked up to and depended on them. So, I wouldn't trust a "Religious" person to be any more or less loving and caring than an atheist, depends on the person, not what god they do or don't believe in. Just my opinion.

It depends on what you consider "well being". While every Christian is called to love every person and be concerned for their eternal well-being, unsaved man is incapable of even percieving God, much less truly care for the eternal lives of other people. Naturally, humans are capable of caring for the status and condition of other people only as it relates to Humanity, which is removing God as Sovereign. Therefore, while it may look and feel like an act of compassion, it is actually an act of pride either in the person themself, or pride in Humanty's ability to care fr itself

I have seen Scientist who have invented things for mankind and this scientist does not believe in God.
I have a friend in Vancouver who teaches Physics for years who gets goose bumps just by mentioning the word God and yet he helps all of his student not only to excel in his class but teaches them to be involved in serving the community. Any community including any religious community as long as they help the poor.
One does not have to belong to any religion in order to know and understand what it is be a human being and what another human being needs. Many times I have seen people who belongs to their church and yet serves only those who could patronize them and acknowledge their presence but despise and look down on those who does not belong to their faith. Where and who would you like to be?

no they don't! it doesn't matter if you believe in god or yourself or whatever. You are still capable of doing all the same things. Sometimes, it's the people who are spiritual and religious who are the most mean, and who don't care about the well being of another.

Digilook, you keep following peace and love; that is true spirituality. Religion is the opposite of peace and love.

No, one does not have to be spiritual. I am agnostic and the nicest guy I know...I would help nearly anyone out there who needed it. And not because I believe I can get into heaven, but because I enjoy it and my parents taught me it's the right thing to do, to care about other people, to be selfless. And because when you 'care' about another person, you are showing yourself and the person your care for that their life has merit, that it's worth something, worth caring about.

The physical and emotional well being of others is everyones responsibility. When it becomes self serving, ie helping to further your own ambitions, it is evil.
