Joe Louis had primarily one of the best offensive arsenals in boxing and Jack Johnson the best defense. I go for Jack Johnson simply because he too could like Louis box and he could punch.
The difference being his defense, Joe would have found it difficult to penetrate and he was like Joe very physically strong so that defense would have been the only factor that makes me think Jack Johnson would have won. A win for Jack Johnson.
Johnson - W 93 (KO's 52) TF 127 - W pct 73% - KO pct 41% - wins over T. Hart and J. Jeffries - KO'ed by J. Williard (Johnson claims that he lost on purpose)
Fought past 50yrs old (ridiculous)
Louis - W 69 (KO's 55) TF 72 - W pct 96% - KO pct 72% - wins over Conn[2], Walcott, and Bradock - KO'ed by Schemling and Marciano - #1 ranked puncher - #4 ranked fighter
He initiated the bum of the month fights
The IRS should have given Joe a break with his tax problems.
As good as a defensive fighter that Johnson was he would be hard pressed not to get KO'ed by Louis. Louis by late rd KO or a unanimous decision.
ESPN Classic 10 pm the greatest boxers of all-time.
Very close but Jack Johnson, putting all politics aside because of his personal life, may have beaten Joe Louis. Arguably the greatest defensive fighter of all time, I have him as the third greatest heavyweight of all time behind Muhammad Ali and Joe Louis and even that s debatable!
