Personally, I think it's silly that there are people that take the inscription on the Statue of Liberty literally.

It's a symbol. Not policy. If you want a symbol to show to illegal immigrants, I'd be happy to flip them the bird.

"Give us your illegal, uneducated masses yearning to pop out a few babies on US soil."

Humbug. Illegal is illegal.

Um, Uncle Osbert?

The Bill of Rights is law. The first ten amendments to the Constitution.

And the Declaration, is just that... a Declaration. It states, for lack of a better word, the objective of our country, and the reasons why we left Great Britain. It doesn't denote policy. It's like the mission statement of a company, but for a nation.

hi :) of course! XD bypass on an escalator, haha XD And bypass on one that is going down, and you will be able to stroll up it, and you will on no account get to the perfect (except you extremely run rather quickly, lol). And that way, you're strolling forward and backward on the comparable time, lol =P

do you think it's silly to take the declaration of independence or the bill of rights literally?

no, i believe this country really yearns to be something worthy of our birthright and our forefathers. the statue of liberty was a gift, and the poem was a wish for our future.

you and yours have done this nation a grand diservice, making it a place valuing convenience, security and the pursuit of dollars. i'm sorry poetry and virtue offends you so...

Maybe we as Americans should make a similar statue and present it to mexico that says "KEEP" your huddled masses etc...etc.. A million to one they wouldn't be so quick to listen to what the "statue" says.

Humbug is right. Why can't they read the laws and quote them.

The inscription was meant for people who were escaping tyranny in their own countrys! It was NOT intended to invite every 'deadbeat" to sneak over here and live off welfare! It was not meant for everyone to come here just because they want to!

I know... IE:

Simular example: "In God We Trust" <----- on money

Doesn't mean you have to trust in God to do everyhing. Those are monuments from the past-- history, it's valuable.

Some people are just too selfish-- so they have to turn it around in their favor.

God Bless them...

Amelia: (Below me) It does mean they're bad people... They are stealing from me, from every American LEGAL CITIZEN!!

Stealing is enough to be bad in my book...Disrespecting my country is enough.. and so is not assimulating.
