I just read one trying to use entropy as a reason as to why evolution could not occur. This sounds reasonable enough, unless you happen to know the entire law. Entropy involves a closed system continually becoming more and more chaotic. The most important word there is 'closed'. Perhaps these creationist are not considering the vast amounts of energy that are entered into our system (Earth) every second of every day by the sun. The Earth is not a closed system.

I just love how fundies try to use science whenever it seemingly suits their agenda...

My bad Will. You are correct. It's been a long day. Disorder would be the more appropriate term.

"Entropy involves a closed system continually becoming more and more chaotic."

That's incorrect. Entropy involves a closed system become more and more disordered, not more chaotic. While disorder and chaos might seem like synonyms in casual conversation, they are very distinct concepts when speaking scientifically.

Hey,

What is wrong with taking a line from page one and putting it with two words from page 1027 and followed by a line or two from page 505. I mean the words are in the same book and it should not matter how you move them around? Right? That is how the bible is used and people will use this same practice on most anything as long as it serves their needs. Even in court they will take one part of the statment and say this is what you said yes or no. You have to say yes but the problem is they left off the first 10 words and the last 3. Something like "Why would I kill her?", Very easly changed to "I kill her". I know that was dumb but it is just what they are doing.

It is not just that they use partial science only when it suites their needs, but they also only use those aspects of their faith that align with their own character and desires.

You will NEVER find a fundie that has a definition of what it takes to enter heaven that isn't the same as their own beliefs and character. And at the same time, you will never find two fundies that can agree exactly on what is required to enter heaven.

I think your question was too long. Perhaps it simply should have read "Do fundies fully understand?" The majority(on here, anyway)seem to exibit vast amounts of ignorance regarding the actual reality they exist in, let alone anything way above their heads such as a "Scientific concept"!!! In fact, I'm surprised they are not all floating off the surface of the Earth, considering 'Gravity' is "Only a theory!"(said in a whining tone, of course)

:)

They don't understand that whatever wacky stories get pounded into their heads, no matter how preposterous, they become fact. Science doesn't enter into it.

They try to speak the language of science, but they come off like me trying to speak Spanish by stringing some Spanish sounding syllables together and hoping they make sense. It may sound like legitimate Spanish to other non-Spanish speakers, but the moment someone who really knows Spanish hears me, my cover is blown.

That's what fundies talking science are like. To their fellow true believers, they sound like they make a lot of sense, but to anyone with a bit of actual scientific knowledge, it's little more than mindless babbling.

I, like yourself, think fundamentalists just take the parts of theology that suit them and their argument. Then, to perhaps someone who hasn't studied science enough to know that he or she was only giving half a theory, principle or law they would appear knowledgeable and be believed thus spreading more ignorance of science. They damage societies perception of science and technology.

They're so used to twisting things to serve their own purposes that they'll do it with anything. Not even facts are sacred; religion is nothing but rhetoric and semantics.
