I know it probably isn't the best but is there anyway to cook rice in a microwave because I don't have a hob (as I'm a poor student living in a crappy bedsit)?

What else can I cook in the microwave other than instant meals, which I hate?

Thanks

you can find .79$ rice packets at your grocrey store in your rice isle ..the flavoried ones i would put into a tupaware ( hard ) plastic container one that is not going to melt :P put enough water in to till it doubles the amount of rice ...and then put a little oil in also any kind would work really .. put it into your microwave for 14-17 minutes and when you take it out let it sit before you fluff it then eat!

if it is just white rice i would not put any oil in and put it in for the same time .. if it is brown rice it would take a long time in the microwave you would have to use your best judgement on that

i know this sounds gross and i would not do it just because i just would not do it but you can and it IS safe..you can cook fish in your microwave but i would put flavored fish in if you have lemon pepper seasoning just sprinkle that on because it is harder to get regular fish smell out of a microwave then it is flavored fish believe it or not

if you like veggies you can get an acorn squash a spaggetti squash or really any other squash out there take a hammer or something heavy and a big knife to cut the squash in half ..butter all the INNER sides really well ( just like you are greasing a cookie sheet ) if it is acorn squash or butter nut you can add brown sugar BEFORE you put it into the microwave put whatever amount you are going to cook up on a plate upright so the butter does not drip out when done ..put a paper towel ( no napkins it will shread ) on top and cook for 30-35 minutes to see if it is done poke it with a fork or knife if the utensil goes in like it would a cooked potato it is done - I LOVE DOING THIS :P

you can cook many veggietables in your microwave you can put corn on the cob in but leave the husks or whatever those things are on i would take off the end that has the hairy brown stuff and put in the microwave for about 5 minutes per ear

all other raw veggies you can put into a dish and put water in with it use your best judgement as to how long to cook

you can cook a pan of muffin mix in your microwave also .. it may sound disgusting but it is not if you buy the premade pacakages that call for a little bit of milk or water go ahead and do that mix it up and put it into your microwave UNCOVERED try 15 minutes first see how the pan is doing and use your best judgement

rememer DO NOT PUT FOIL OR PLASTIC WRAP into your microwave .. EVER

you can do other things such as pastas and even your own sause you just have to be very careful..if you want to know more feel free to message me at pinklittlekitten@hotmail.com or email at pink_karistakat@yahoo.com

i hope i helped!

Yes. Use a 2-quart glass dish with a lid. Pour in one cup of rice and 1 3/4 cups of water (tip from Rachel Ray!). Microwave on high for 5 minutes w/o the lid. Then stir, put the lid on, and microwave for 15 minutes on medium or simmer. Let stand for 1-2 minutes, fluff with fork.

You can cook potatoes, hot dogs...brownies, muffins..all kind of things. Check the websites for microwaving recipes. As far as regular rice goes, it takes as long to do it in the micro as on top of the stove in a pan. If you've got a pan, do it there. (There are instant and microwave rices available at the market)

well...if it's the minute rice then you can just get a container and microwave the some water (1 cup of water for 1 cup of rice) then after the water is boiling take it out and put the rice in the container and cover it for about 5 minutes (and if you take butter and but it on the rice after it's done it tastes really good)

yes you can cook rice in a microwave. follow the directions on the box of minute rice . you can also cook bagged rice by simply following the directions for microwave rice on the package. my advice to you is buy you an inexspensive book on microwaving. there is nothing you can't cook if you follow the directions. i make wonderful meals in mine everyday. it's not just for defrosting and heating up food. use it and enjoy!!!!

yes, directions are on the box/bag, generally for one person, 1/2 cup rice, 1/4 cup water, 1tsp. butter, cover with plastic wrap, heat on high power 3 minutes, be careful taking it out it will be HOT!, stir, if all of the liquid is not gone or if the rice is not done enough for you, heat in 1 minute intervals until done. you can also do scrambled eggs in a bowl, bacon on a plate(wrapped in a paper towel) and there are some really good microwavable hamburger patties and Italian type pastas in the stores that I have tried and are very good. happy nuking

Read the package, it will tell the microwave instructions. You can bake potatoes, then put great toppings on them. You can make bacon, soups, ramen noodles. Google microwave recipes for ideas.
