This might be because of a slight misunderstanding. Some students get money from parents for getting good grades in school. This, in essense, could be refered to as "getting paid to go to school."

The kids don't get paid. But the school gets paid money for each student that attends school... which is why they are always trying to get you to go to class and not ditch.
