Would a single, 26 year old Sergeant in the Marines be allowed to live off base? Somebody told me that if you are not married then you are required to live on base. Is that true?

XXXXXXXXXXX Yes legally that is true but there are so many Sargeants in the Army that I know of living off post. There is a way of getting exempt. Talk to your commander. XXXXXXXXXXXX

Yes, being single you're required to live in the barracks. But You may be able to get an exemption that will pay you BAQ to live off base. The only exemption I know of is if the barracks are overflowing and they have to many E-1 to E-4 living in the barracks they may start asking the NCO's if they want to move off base. You should talk to your First Sergeant he'll be able to tell you, but make sure your platoon sergeant knows about it just to keep them in the loop.

Depends on the bases's policy. some commands do not allow single soldiers to live off base, regardless of pay grade. others allow it once they hit a certain paygrade or in the case of overcrowded barracks.

if your not married you will not get an allowance to live off base.. is it true.. they dont expect a wife and kids to live in a frathouse like environment .. that is why.. so when your single you have no reason to live off base..

you may stay off base in case you want to. you keep in mind that you pay each and every of the expenses and could take care of a barracks room. that is the dumbest pass you may make, yet opt for it.

When your in the military you can live off base. You have to pay your rent, the military will not give you BAQ. You have to be married to get BAQ.
