Once my dad and I found a wallet in Wal-mart parking lot when I was younger.

We tried to track down the owner with the info in the wallet but the more we dug into it, we realized the person was fraudulent. They'd been stealing checks from other people and somehow cashing it. Had a pretty large amount of money which we also assumed was stolen. Credit cards with other peoples names on it.

We actually got the guy on the phone and asked if he was the owner of the wallet and he denied it probably thinking we were investigators.

However, rather than turning the entire wallet over to the cops, we split the cash. *shrugs*

If you find some cash with some sort of id with it, then you have a pretty good idea of who it belongs to. And naturally you should make an effort to find that person. If you see a person drop some money, then, again, you know where it came from and you should return it. If you find a single bill on the ground, or road, or in the park or wherever, it's futile to try to find the owner because everyone you ask will claim it. Keep it. I found $20.00 in a paper bank envelope one time and since there was no identification on it, I spent it on some much-needed groceries. I did stick around for a few minutes to see if there was anybody looking for some lost money. I would have given it to them if they asked. But nobody did.

I found a wallet with a large amount of cash in it. I called the person by looking up their number with their ID and I returned it with all the cash.

I've returned wallets I found, yes.. one on the side of the road and one in a restaurant. If I found a huge amount with no ID or anyone to contact, I honestly can't say what I'd do with it.

I found a wallet with a lot of cash in it when I was in the Navy, I returned and the azz who owned it counted the money and said I guess it is all here and walked away without even saying thanks, I wish I would have threw it it the water.
