First of all, what kind of pet do you want? Do you know enough about the animal to be able to know if you can take care of it properly or not?
Let's say you want a dog. Do you want a puppy or an adult dog? If you want a puppy, you're going to have to potty train it, and that means cleaning up lots of poop and dog pee.
Then do you want a big dog? A little dog? Do you want a working dog, like a Bull Dog or a Shepard or a Lab, or do you want a yappy show dog like a poodle? These dogs all have very different personalities that must be taken into consideration before you can just pick one up because they're very cute.
It also means walking the dog, feeding the dog, bathing the dog, taking him to the vet, getting his/her shots, spayed or neutered -- it costs a lot of money to have a dog.
Now these are questions that you will have to answer for your parents, and they are all valid questions, whether you want a dog or a bird or a kitten or a ferret or gerbal. You need to understand the COST before you pay the cost, and you need to be aware that the burden will never be completely yours until you are an adult living on your own.
If you really want a pet that bad, really think about what you want and why. Then do some research on the internet about that pet, and then see if you can find one at a shelter somewhere where things like shots, neutering, etc., are already done so your parents won't have to pick up the tab.
When you've got all your research done, write it in a report and then go to your mom or dad and tell them what you've learned. They may be so secretly impressed with your research that they relent.
Of course, honey, also realise that there may be reasons why they're saying no that you are too young to understand fully in the first place. If you've done all of that and they still tell you know, there might be a reason that has nothing to do with you at all.
Good luck!

I spent 7 years trying to get my parents to get me a dog, and it worked, so I can really relate to you here. Ok, what you have to do is be persistent. Also, do things around the house, and help out to show you're responsible. Maybe you should also try volunteering at a pet store, and you should have your parents see how you do, and if you can handle all those pets you sure could handle one of your own. What I did also is make a powerpoint presentation for them (obsessed with them, hehe) about what I already know about the pet I wanted, and the things I'd do for it, and everything else. If somebody said what I'm about to say to you to me, I'd hate them, but *gulp*...maybe your parents have a reason for saying no. Actually, NEVER MIND! you just need to prove to them you're responsible enough and you'll take care of the pet and not give all the work to them. Do your best, because pets are life!

Kool!! I love having pets!! There awesome! I found one way that always works!! LOL!! You need to first show your parents that you are responsible!! show them that you can do things with out being asked!! If you have any other pets like fish show them that you can feed them!! If that doesnt work ask them why they dont want you to have a pet!! Maybe they have some really good reason!! If its something you can fix like you dont take out the garbage and they say that they wont be able to trust you to take care of a pet show them that you can do your chores and be responsible enough!! Then you can also maybe do someother things around the house to help out!! I hope you get the pet!! Have fun!! I hope that works!! BIE

Seriously?
The major problem most parents have with their kids having pets (assuming of course that they either own the home or pets are allowed in the rental agreement) is that kids very quickly stop being responsible about minding the pet and cleaning up after it.
Pets don't stop needing food and water, and don't stop dropping feces just because a young, undisciplined child stops taking daily care of it.
So, 1) make sure you are legally allowed to have a pet first (does your landlord allow them?), and 2) demonstrate to your parents in the normal, daily affairs of home life that you're responsible enough to take care of the chores you already have.

Usually the best way is to convince them that YOU will do all the work in taking care of said pet. Your parents probably just don't want to have to deal with the extra responsibility. With that said, you need to find a way to show them you are very responsible and can be counted on to take care of your pet.
Begging constantly until they cave in might work also...

You have to show them that you are mature enough, to take care of a pet. You can show them by doing your chores without being asked to do them. When you get home from school, Check and see if the dishes need to be done, take the trash out. If your room is a mess clean it and keep it that way. If they see you are trying they may just let you havew a pet. Good Luck!!!!

Tell your parents that you want some responsibility to prove to them that you can take care of a pet and make a deal with them depending on what kind of pet you want tell them what you are willing to do to keep the pet well taken care of and tell them you will do something extra each week/ month : like chores if they will let you get a pet. ..... don't forget to mention that pets are an additive to your personal growth.

First...show them you can handle responsibility, by doing your chores without being asked, and doing things around the house without your parents haveing to even ask you! (that always impresses them). Second, figure out the pet that you want, then find everything you're gonna need to take care of it (a little advice, find a CLEAN animal, that's easy to take care of, like indoor cats) then when you ask them if you can have a pet, tell them about everything it will need how you'll clean up after it and say that the minute you stop taking care of it they can get rid of it. (and smile)

Do your chores without being asked.
Do extra chores w/o being asked.
Research the cost of caring for a pet - include food, heathcare, grooming.
Check out a book from the library about the pet you are interested in, and learn all you can about it and discuss it with the parental units. It will impress them that you cared enough to do this.

First, let them know how responible you can be. I suggest sitting down for a adult conversation with them. "Mom, Dad, I want to show you how responsible I can be." Don't even let them know why you want to do that, just tell them you want to prove yourself, first. Then when you've accomplished that, tell them, "I've really proved that I'm a resposible young adult, I'd like to have a small pet". Start off with a small pet, and show them you can take care of it, the right way, and work your way up to something bigger. Good luck!
