I have a lot of outside cats, and im scared whenever i let my dog outside, cuz she likes to chase, attack, and kill them. I tried to keep her from it, but nothing I do works. What can I do to Get her to Stop??

My dog did that exact same thing. What you have to do, is catch her in the act of doing it, then scold her. If she has a cage, put her in it, and in a firm voice, tell Her "NO!" she should eventually brake the habbit!!! Good Luck!!

It is a natural instinct - this is usually bred into hunting dogs. I have a Jack Russell that I have to watch very closely due to my cat - she does everything possible to sneak upstairs to get at the cat. I have pretty successfully separated them by using a baby gate at the top/bottom of my stairs, but you still may need to keep an eye on the dog since they're usually very persistent when they want something. You can also take her outside on a leash, rather than letting her run free...that way you can stop her before she harms the cats.

Get rid of the cats or the dog. You can't train out that chasing instinct, and all the effort you put into training your dog not to kill the cats will be in vain when your dog sneaks away one day and kills them anyway. Dogs have spent, oh, a few million years or so chasing everything in sight--do you really think you can train that out of your dog? Dogs are cat killers or they're not. Get rid of the cats or the dog, and if you get another dog, make sure it plays well with cats.

What breed of dog do you have? Quite often it is a natural instinct in certain breeds to chase and catch their prey.

Your dog is really only doing what is natural. Unfortunately it is not wanted behaviour.

Separation is probably the only way, once a dog has begun to chase and kill it is very unlikely to be able to be trained out of it.

Some of us just hate cats and it is a natural instinct. Once we have killed one cat it is pretty impossible to make us stop. I had a German Shepherd friend once who was very gentle until she killed a chicken. After that she got out of her yard and attacked a sheep! You just have to keep your dog locked up, or away from the cats.

Some dogs have a hunting instinct for anything that's smaller than them and moves I don't think you can make her stop. Unfortunately the only way to keep your cats alive is to give away the dog.

There's really no way to help a dog like that, just be careful when you let her out. Build a fence. that would help. Make a spot in your yard just for your dog, with a fence. Hope it helps! Make sure to scold the dog after he/she has done it. and put her in her box/cage.
