They can be if you drink too many of them. I've heard of people being hospitalized for drinking too many. They have herbs/caffeine/minerals that can build up too quickly or over-load the kidneys or adrenal glands if they're consumed too often.

I can say for sure that they're not good for you. Now, how you want to define "bad" for you is your business, but, in my books, if it ain't good, it's bad. And I've been a very avid runner and bicyclist for decades, and I was very attentive to what I ate and drank, and I wouldn't touch these new "energy drinks". My body needs more nutrition in it for the very strenuous bicyle rides I used to do, of a minimum of 30 miles per day after work, to 45, 75, and 100 miles per day on the weekend, with an occasional 200 mile bicycle ride in one day, so what I eat and drink is very important. Think in the long run, and you most likely won't buy these "energy drinks". God Bless you.

Those that contain caffeine and sugar will give you a kick. A lot of the other ingredients have been correlated to performance enhancement, but are not likely to do much for you in the quantities available in a "soft" drink. They taste good, though.
