I think a more appropriate question to ask is “How many body bags were sent to Iraq?” In other words, how many military casualties did the US Administration expect there would be?
Here is a fact for everyone to consider… Prior to the 1991 Gulf War, the Pentagon’s ‘Worst Case Scenario’ visualised 30,000 military personnel dying in 20 days! How generous they are with the lives of your Military Personnel!!!

About 900 less than killed in < 24 hours in the Normandy landings, (3339 , est.) Just the US alone! Almost 1000 people were killed or wounded in under 30 minutes! (116th reg, 29th div)
This type of question shows up here all the time, get some perspective. Life, REAL LIFE, not the reality show, game boy, happy ending in one hour minus commercials, Disney like pretend life that many Americans lead, is unfair, dangerous, and dirty.
Those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty, do not deserve to have their losses diminished by playing a numbers game to advance ones agenda or air their displeasure at the current administration.

It would have to be something like 54,000 just to get near the numbers from Vietnam.
And to put this in perspective, we lose 40,000 to 50,000 people in auto accidents every single year. We lose as many through medical screw ups every year as well. War sucks, but there are many deadly activities that are not being addressed in society. To live is to risk dieing. Just kind of putting it all into perspective.
The totals from Vietnam were 58,000 +, and from Korea (a much shorter war) 54,000+, so as much as this is hyped, our losses are definitely not nearing the losses of either conflict.

"Our American boys & girls getting killed in action is a terrible thing.
But there is something even more terrible: little sissy liberals protesting against the war, and protesting against our military."
That reminds me of a quote I just posted on a never question.
"War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

as for now, the kia in Iraq are rising up to 2300 while in vietnam the Kia was 58,000 official names listed on the memorial wall. and in vietnam it lasted 10 yrs, before we pulled out in great dismay and loss of face. it is too early for the military to pull out compare to vietnam, just brace yourselves for more heroes and veterans in the future.

let's see, we lost over 58,000 in Vietnam, so far we've lost less than 3,000 in Iraq and Afghanistan in over 4 years, you do the math
