I cook them on my gas stove but they seem to burn without cooking all the way through..I always wind up having to split them down the middle in order to cook the inside..any suggestions?

LOL... I had to read the question twice to realize you meant bratwurst.

Usually you're supposed to boil them first to cook them through, then put them on the grill to make the skin crispy.

I like to cook them in a pan with just a tiny bit of liquid in the pan...You can use water, beer, apple juice, whatever you like. If you put the lid on while the liquid is in the pan, they'll steam and cook on the inside before the skins get too done.

Once the liquid is gone, the fats that have come out of the sausages will help the skins brown evenly, too.

I suggest that you boil the bratwurst in beer (lager is best) until cooked through (about 5-7 minutes). Then grill the brat until the casting is slightly chared on all sides.

Enjoy with a spicy mustard.

Mmmm.

Boil in water first. Marinate them in Light olive oil in a plastic zip bag. Add celery salt into the zip bag and shake. Now add a little apple juice into a skillet and a pinch of brown sugar. Cook the brats at low heat for about 20-30 minutes. You will love the taste and they will not burn.

I don't recommend cooking brats, the parents tend to get excited. but if you have to I suggest boiling in a large pot, cut up carrots, onions and potatoes. Poke with a fork until they quit yelling then turn down the heat and simmer for 15 minutes per pound of brat.

Oh, silly me! You mean bratwurst! Wow am I embarassed! Simmer them in beer until heated through. Pop them on a grill until nice and browned. Serve with lots of Kraut, swiss cheese and beer!

Boil them in beer first, then brown on the grill That is THE official method! You can also bake them, or brown them in oil, put in a pan with sauerkraut, and bake 45 mins at 350. Depending on the brand, they may look pink even thugh they are cooked through.

Yeah... I'm suprised someone asked this question cause' I've got a pack on the grill right now. The very, very, very best way to cook em' is to make sure you don't stick them with anything or the juice will run out and cause it to come out dry. So next time use tongs or however you spell it. Oh, put them on the very top rack. with your steak on the bottom, mmh!!!

Boil it and sliced onions in beer. When it's almost done, put it on a grill. Don't want to mess with the grill? That's when I put the brat in a frying pan with some of the onions and some kraut, and cook til done. Serve with german mustard. Yum!

"GRILLED BRATWURST WITH ONIONS BRAISED IN BEER AND MUSTARD
Serves 4.
• 4 4-oz. fresh bratwurst (or cooked or smoked varieties)
• 2 tablespoons bacon fat, lard or olive oil
• 3 cups thinly sliced onion, about 12 oz., 2 medium yellow onions
• 1/8 teaspoon sugar
• 12 ounces dark or amber beer
• 2 bay leaves
• 2 tablespoons coarse-ground country-style mustard
• 4 crusty hoagie or Italian rolls, split

Cooking Directions
Heat fat in 12-inch, deep skillet over medium heat.

Add onions and sugar, stir well to coat with fat. Sauté onions, stirring frequently, for 10 minutes, or until starting to turn golden brown.

Add beer, scraping up any browned bits from bottom of pan.
Add bay leaves, lower heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.
Stir mustard into onions, remove from heat and set aside, discarding bay leaves.

Grill bratwurst over medium-hot fire, turning to brown evenly, until nicely browned and internal temperature reaches 160 degrees F. on an instant-read meat thermometer.

Remove from grill and add to skillet with onions.

Over medium heat, cook and stir until sauce becomes syrupy.
Serve bratwurst in rolls, generously smothered with mustardy onions."
