I work for an relectrical company and do lots of commercial grade repairs like 3 phase 360V 800A panels and all that.

anyways last Friday the boss told me to wire the AC units on the roof of the workout world that were were at while he stayed in the shade inside...

anyways i was up on the roof which was coated with some nice reflective silver paint for a full 8 hours...It was also a clear, sunny, 90F day outside.

when i got home i started feeling pain on my neck and that's when i thought if i had gotten sunburn. you just don't think about it when working all day i guess...

well it was a bad one...Friday i got it good, weekend was OK but painful and today back at work we were outside for an hour replacing a motor on yet another roof. My neck started to get blistered and all so i figure this is a 2nd degree burn now.

2 questions.
Whats the best way to make the swelling and pain go away?
and
Whats the best way to keep it from getting worse while its heeling and I'm working outside?

First, you have to bring the skin back to it's "correct" temperature. Make sure to use cool (not cold) compresses, and don't put on anything that will make the burn worse, like lotion, butter, etc. (think of adding butter or any kind of grease to a hot pan -- that's what it will do to your skin).

To keep the skin from burning even worse while you're working, you will have to cover up. Wear light weight, protective clothing, drink lots of water to keep the skin hydrated, and wear the highest spf sunscreen you can find on any part of you that isn't covered.

Feel better -- also, take motrin, etc. for the pain. It really helps.

Think of a sunburn like any other burn. The skin gets over heated and therefore overworked. It will gradually burn deeper. Treat it as an inflamation. Like you would if you had inflamation of the joints or so. That remedy will help a lot.

Try cucumbers and grated raw potatos. I'm serious. I got a bad burn last year, and this helped.
Then slather on the zinc oxide. tomorrow.
